Love Being Healthy

Thanks for the post, Nora Howe.

I love staying fit and it’s really important to me that I pass those lessons on to my kids. I came from a family of obese women and the last thing I want for my daughters is for them to struggle with their weight their whole lives like I have. At home we only watch satellitetvfamily for an hour a day and then they have to go outside and play – I think those few extra minutes and hours of running around really make a difference and I’m hoping to inspire a life-long love of exercise in them. I also have been cooking less sweets and baked goods (which is painful for me, believe me) but I think my kids are really starting to understand the basics of healthy eating. They’ve been asking for fruits and veggies and they don’t even beg for fast food anymore which I think is huge in the long run and is really going to make a difference in their lives. I want to set them up for success as adults!

My Good-Looking Lawn Mower

Summer. We’ve been waiting for it for a while now, especially since the past winter has been so brutal. Unfortunately for my husband, though, when his snow shoveling duties ended, his lawn mowing duties began. :)

We bought this mower from Lowe’s a few weeks back mainly because it was cheap and it also went on sale that week. As first time mowers, the sales people there were very helpful in helping us choose a good first mower. However, although this particular model was okay enough for small jobs (which we thought our lawn was), my hubby quickly realized the advantage of having a more powerful motor, an easier to adjust grass-cutting height, a mulching option, a bag, as well as one that was cordless. Anyway, next time we come across some Lowe’s coupons, we are definitely getting a much better one.

PS. My husband will now be spared of any more mowing or shoveling since we’ve now moved into a condo community where they take care of all that stuff. :) Yey!

I Love Bacon

The article written by Alonso Kramer.

I need someone to explain the strange relationship between men and bacon. My husband had the day off so I asked him what did want for breakfast. His usual answer is cereal, but today he wanted bacon, eggs and some toast. He reminded me of the dog on the Beggin Strips commercial. That commercial seems to come on my Expert Satellite Georgia channels every time we are in the kitchen. I shudder to think what is really in those treats, but the dog sure loves them and my husband is the same way whenever he eats a full breakfast. I try to encourage him to eat more fruit and grains for breakfast, but he wants his plate full of greasy artery clogging food. I do not want him to make me a single mom before my time. I must give him some credit. He does have a job that requires him to be outside and he does physically work in all types of weather. When he comes home he is exhausted and usually showers, eats and falls asleep. I just wish he did not look so much like that dog when I mention bacon.

1. What are your feelings about horses?
:: I love horses, and my daughter loves them too. We are even actually thinking of sending her to riding school so she could be an equestrian. :)

2. How far would you have to go if you wanted to ride a merry-go-round?
:: Not far, our mall has an indoor merry-go-round for kids.

3. When did you last eat something containing pinto beans?
:: We hardly eat any pinto beans. We’re not big fans. Sorry! I’d rather engage in zumba fitness than eat beans, hehe.

4. How’s your mane?
:: Falling off, waaaah! After-baby falling hair is the worst.

5. When did you last go hoarse?
:: I can’t remember, I hardly shout my tonsils out. I can say it was probably many years ago, way back in college and I was screaming along with my schoolmates while cheering on the basketball team or something. I honestly don’t know, haha!

Food Treatments

1. What’s your favorite pickled food?
:: Pickled mangoes! Yum.

2. What’s your favorite dehydrated food?
:: Dehydrated mangoes? Haha, jk! I can’t think of any. The only thing that comes to mind is beef jerky, and I don’t even eat beef. :D

3. What’s your favorite covered-in-chocolate food?
:: Royce’s Chocolate covered potato chips. Yum! And a very close second is chocolate covered almonds.

4. What’s your favorite sauteed-in-garlic-and-butter food?
:: Shrimps sauteed in butter and garlic. Yes!

5. What’s your favorite order-at-the-drive-through food?
:: McDonald’s McChicken sandwich. As I told my best friend, I could eat McChicken everyday and not get tired of it. Best of all, you can buy them now for practically just coins, they’ve become much cheaper lately. :)

1. Who in your life has most recently had a baby?
:: Ahem, I did. :)

2. Who in your life has most recently purchased a car?
:: My neighbor, Jo. I am so jealous of her new ride, so hi-tech! :)

3. Who in your life has most recently lost a fair amount of weight?
:: My husband. Has has been on a mandatory diet to improve his cholesterol and blood pressure levels. Unfortunately, the guy is gaining it all right back… :P

4. Who in your life has most recently gotten a terrific haircut?
:: Ahem, this is me again! And I am actually psyched about my haircut because I chanced upon a good stylist. I haven’t had one of those in a while.

5. Who in your life has most recently begun a new job?
:: My sister. She’s doing great as a Chef in Singapore now. Hopefully, she’ll save up enough to buy my daughter, her goddaughter, equestrian apparel so my babe can start on her equestrian dreams. :)

Military Home Loans

We are not a military family but we have a lot of friends who are. I have been told that, especially on a military salary, it’s not easy to purchase your own home. Most banks are not as lenient when it comes to lending money for veteran home loans to people whom they might consider as a huge lending risk.

The good thing, though, is that MilitaryVALoan.com offers these services for active duty and prior service veterans who may need either a home loan or refinancing, at the lowest rates available. All they need to do is fill-out a DD214 request form in order to obtain a certificate of eligibility for a VA mortgage loan.

I’m glad they have these programs. Our soldiers deserve all the support they can get. After all, they make our lives easier, so we should help make their dreams come within reach too.

1. If you were suddenly unable to make any excuses, what could you realistically do today to address whatever in your life is keeping you from being healthy and happy?
:: Taking up running. Most everyone I know has been doing it and I find that they’ve been healthy and happy because of it. I’ve been planning to do it but then I got pregnant so I scrapped the idea. I really want to do it now. And I will. Maybe tomorrow. :)

2. What are your feelings about professional wrestling?
:: Scripted. I used to be a fan during the Hulk Hogan/Macho Man/Jimmy Superfly Snooka days but eventually got tired of it. Imagine a Texas truck accident lawyer vs. Rowdy Roddy Piper. Exactly. I think its the ultimate Broadway show for men. :)

3. What is the brightest, most colorful article of clothing you actually wear once in a while?
:: Bright pink. I’m a little on the darker side so pink becomes fluorescent if hung next to me. But the color makes me happy. :)

4. What’s something you do, not because you want to or because someone’s compelling you, but because it’s the right thing to do?
:: Telling the truth.

5. What’s a food you’ll keep eating until it either runs out or someone stops bringing it to the table?
:: Chips! I can’t stop eating it especially when I see it in front of me. I have muscle memory when it comes to putting them in my mouth.

1. What are your thoughts on late-night television talk shows?
:: I like watching them! Late night talk show hosts are super funny and witty, and their guests are always game for whatever no-holds-barred thing that could happen.

2. What television program is so bad you can’t believe anyone watches it?
:: Reality shows in the genre of The Real Housewives, or Jersey Shore. I couldn’t stand them, honestly. Watching it is like drowning in a pool of conceit and I need swimming pool lifts to even get out.

3. In what way have your television-viewing habits changed over the years?
:: I watch more soap operas now. Yikes!

4. If you were in charge of the universe, what changes might you make to television?
:: I would first make news programs report only positive news instead of all those crimes they show now. Most of it is sensationalized anyway and, instead of helping people feel better about their fellowmen, it just helps spread fear and bad vibes. Also, I would require more superbowl commercials! :D

5. What is most likely the very next thing you will be watching on television?
:: The Price is Right! Haha!
