WS18: Movie Knight

Our weekend was a total rave! First, we went to see a drive-in movie for the very first time!

Those are the cars in front of us, hehe.

Because it was a Friday night, we made sure to arrive by 7pm to beat the long weekend lines. Since we had two hours to kill (the show was scheduled to start at 9:30pm), it was spent eating our take-outs (had we known, we could have brought a grill and had a barbecue, too, like the other moviegoers) and chatting to high heavens with our good friends.

A fun tailgate party of McDonalds take-outs. :)

My hubby and daughter comfortably seated on our portable “theater seats”.

What did we watch? The Dark Knight, of course! And I could never say “Wow!” enough. That movie was probably the best Batman movie ever. A huge “ka-pow!” and “ka-boom!” to the Batman of old.

Why so sad? Because he died, even as he gave life to Joker.

I knew that this was not a movie for kids so, while the adults were watching the movie, the younger kids were left to their own devices (literally) inside the cars. The moms had their Nintendo DS and PSPs at the ready for the kids. As for Ninna, I brought along her portable DVD player and she an her friend Josh watched Dora and Diego all night long, hehe.

What’s great about this is, the seven bucks per adult ticket gets you, not one, but two movies! The Dark Knight was double featured with Get Smart.

Agent 86 Steve Carrell is sooo funny! And Agent 99 Anne Hathaway is so pretty.

Unfortunately, as it was already 1:30am, we weren’t able to finish the second movie because both the kids and the adults were already sleepy (and cranky, haha!) so we decided to head on home. As we crept away with our headlights off, we were pretty thankful that our car insurance was up to date.

Can’t wait until we do this again! :)

WS17: Goodies

Our weekend was pretty uneventful. We mostly just stayed home and finished unpacking and organizing our final boxes of stuff. We also dropped by the nearby Ikea store to take a look at some pieces of furniture that I saw on their online furniture catalog. Had I the presence of mind, that shopping trip would have been the subject of my weekend snapshot. However, I didn’t. And anyway, the one thing that really psyched me up over the weekend was the arrival of my friends from their month-long vacation overseas.

And look at what my good friend and her family brought back for us: homegrown treats. Yum.

Cashew tarts.

Pastillas.

She also brought us some danggit (a kind of salted fish which is yummy when fried to a crisp).

Uber smelly, but yummy all the same.

Pure, unadulterated taste of home. Even for just a while.

Thanks, Mother Sheng! Welcome back! :)

WS16: Red White and Blue

I hope everyone had a great Fourth of July weekend! :)

As for us, we forewent any long drives this year and settled for getting to know our new home, Atlanta, better. I guess the peeps here were pretty happy to see us because they even arranged a fireworks show specifically to welcome us.

We wish, haha!

It was a pretty explosive welcome for us, we had a blast. :)

We trooped to Lenox Square to view the fireworks display.

The mood was pretty festive, they had food stands, inflatables, and a concert stage, too. Also I thought that the whole population of Atlanta was in attendance - there were so many people! It was fun, though, save for the $6 funnel cake, $5 corndog, and $3 bottle of water, haha! And don’t get me started on those neon light wand toys at $15… hello.

The fireworks display itself was pretty awesome, and how I wish I was able to do a better job of capturing the show with my trusty point and shoot. I’m not particularly good with nightscenes, let alone fireworks shots. However, here are a few of the shots that turned out ok, I think.

I even taught Ninna a new song that’s perfect for our themed attire… and it goes a little something like this:

Red, white, and blue. Stars over you. Mama said, Papa said, I love you.

And we wonder why my babe is covering her ears. :D

WS15: Play Cafe

To celebrate Father’s Day, we decided to try this play cafe in Sunset Place called Cool-De-Sac. It’s a restaurant with a playground, or perhaps a playground with a restaurant (depends on how you see it). Nevertheless, it did hit the birds with one stone - Ninna had fun, and hubby and I were (almost) on an alone date, hehe.

The play cafe is located at the third floor of the Sunset Place Mall and, as its name implies, it is indeed situated at a cul-de-sac. :)

Guess who’s excited?

The restaurant is at the center of the space, with seven edutainment areas surrounding it.

The Arts Area.

They have every imaginable art supply. Plus, the kids artwork are proudly displayed, too.

She picked up this crayon and then… left, hehe. This seals it, Ninna isn’t an artsy person. Sigh.

Though she did have fun painting silly faces on these paper doll chalkboards.

This is what she’s super interested in.

Colorful legos all around.

Guess what she’s trying to build?

Something that’s supposedly a Mario Kart, hehe.

And then, there’s a Cool Games area, which Ninna loved!

This computer area alone was enough to make her happy for the whole day.

She totally ignored the Salon (nail polish, makeup, tiaras, and playing dress up doesn’t really interest my girl). I hope she stays this way until she’s 30 years old.

Although, she did want to play in the tots area. I had to steer her away from it because this area was reserved for kids 3 years old and below. I’m with her - I hope she stays a baby forever, too.

The requisite jungle gym. What do you know, I fit inside it too!

To slide or not to slide? :D

However, out of everything in the play cafe, the train sets were her hands down favorite! :D

As expected, we had a hard time convincing my daughter to leave. Well, I had trouble convincing myself to leave, too. :)

WS14: Que Sera Sera

When I was just a little girl, I asked my mother, “what will I be?”.

Will I be a chef?

Will I be an archeologist?

Will I be a candymaker and work for Willy?

Will I be a news anchor?

Will I be a soda bottler?

Will I be a veterinarian?

Will I be a cashier, a bagger, a stocker?

Will I be a clown?

And my Mom answered:

It doesn’t matter, sweetie. Just as long as you make a lot of money. :D

And since then, I’ve put my mom’s words of wisdom on engraved plaques. *wink*

WS13: Ride Baby Ride

Presenting, my roller-coaster-buddy-in-the-making. How much does she love to ride? Let us count the ways.

One

Two

Three

Four (with her friend, Weya.)

Five

Six

Seven

Eight

Nine (with her Papa.)

Ten (with Me!)

No Bonamine required for her, huh?

Unfortunately for some of us, that’s not the case. Times like these, aside from Bonamine, there’s Dramamine, Aspirin, and our good friend Advil to help get us through all that spinning and dipping and turning. I won’t be surprised if our next ride is headed towards drug rehab, haha! Good luck!

WS 12: Mini Masters

For the first time in the history of the Masters, a novice challenges an expert to a one-on-one on the green.

“This is going to be easy. But well, you gotta do what you gotta do.”

The challenger sweats out the difficult putt despite the cool Friday evening.

No upsets here. Our expert wins!

“Better luck next time, Papa.”

WS11: Mommy Happy

I hope everyone had a great Moms’ Day weekend like I did. :)

After church, we had lunch at 15th Street Fisheries, which I have been bugging hubby to take me for a while now. Wish granted! :)

Our view of the Lauderdale Marina.

We opted to dine inside, but we did get a view of the outside diners from our seats.

And, it wasn’t only us who had a full belly afterwards… these guys did, too!

Huge game fishes going crazy over the crackers that we threw from the dock.

And these guys as well (no crackers, though, just really special fish food that you can buy for a quarter).

Gorgeous koi.

Happy tummies for everyone! Especially the mommy, hehe! :)

WS10: She Sells Sea Shells

We were supposed to drive to Sanibel Island last weekend but, at the last minute, we took a detour and ended up somewhere much nearer - at Naples.

After a yummy lunch at Cafe Luna, we headed off to scout for the perfect beach this side of our State…and we had plenty to choose from.

Beach Number 1: Tigertail Beach

Tigertail Beach at Marco Island is actually more of an inlet beach rather than an ocean beach. What’s good about this particular beach is it has a park beside it with a playground, a butterfly garden, and a cafe, which makes it ideal for family outings and picnics. Tents and watercycles are also available for rent here. Hubby said that the location reminded him of his childhood when they used to go swimming in the river. Yeah, it kinda had that vibe.

Beach Number 2: South Marco Beach

South Marco Beach is also at Marco Island but at the other end (as opposed to Tigertail, which is at the North) and looks out to the Gulf of Mexico. Now this one really looked like a beach. :) The sands are white, though a bit rough because of the broken shells strewn all over.

But then again…look who had fun shelling.

Happy with her loot.

Beach Number 3: Naples

Our final destination was the Fifth Avenue beach at Naples. We were hoping to catch the sunset here. Unfortunately, it got really cloudy so I just had to content myself with watching my little sunshine.

One Saturday, three beaches, a bucketful of shells, and lots of beautiful memories.

WS09: Wee!

My PC’s anti-virus expired recently so this necessitated for us a quick trip to BestBuy. Look what we took home too…

Yii-hii!!

Although hubby and I talked about getting a console as soon as one became available again, we never had any plans on getting one yesterday. That is, until we picked up BestBuy’s in-store bulletin and saw that they had a limited supply of Wii consoles available. Not expecting anything, (I mean, Wii consoles tended to disappear the first two hours after being put on the shelf, right?) imagine our surprise when they did have a few boxes stacked on the floor!

Imagine what a surprise that was to our credit card, too, haha!

I don’t really know how my daughter does it but she does this (and some strikes too!) without any effort.

Here’s hubby in his element, perfect driving form and all

As for me, I’m still waiting for a dance pad. That’s my sport, hehe.
