The Great Texas Hill Slide

Last weekend was a fun one. Initially, we were only hoping to catch the Fourth of July fireworks at Fort Worth. Inadvertently, we also got to participate in one of the most fun things we’ve ever done in a long while.

What do you think these crazy people (who all seem to be high on testosterone cream) are about to do? :)

They are all climbing up the hill and getting ready to slide down on their cardboards! :)

And here are the crazy loves of my life getting ready to join in the craziness.

One…two…threeeee!

Yey! It was really a lot of fun. :)

And you know what, we’re counted! At exactly 4:30pm, at the sound of a horn, everybody (and I mean everybody) slid down all together down the hill to make a world record attempt of “the most people sliding downhill at one time”.

Guiness notoreity, there you go!

Way Up There

This is me 525 feet above the streets of downtown Calgary. No, I am not walking on air. No matter how much whey protein powder I take, I haven’t figured out how to summon that power yet, hehe. But I am standing on a glass floor and, I have to tell you, I usually am not afraid of heights but this one did it for me. I had to psych myself up for a few minutes before I was able to step foot onto the glass. It was indeed quite the knee-buckling experience.

Best Friends

Photo of me and my bffs taken by my 5-year old daughter.

Here I am with my two best friends in high school. They were the first ever people I met up with when I arrived in Manila, September of last year. We had a blast reminiscing our old lives in high school – from meeting each other during freshman year, up to the time when we were reviewing for the NCEE (which is sort of like sat prep courses in the US, that our school makes us undergo weeks before the exams), up until the time we went to college, and our own lives after that. If anyone should ask me, I would say that my life would not be complete without these two girls by my side, it really won’t.

Oh Christmas Tree

xmastree

Christmas really is just around the corner.

Here’s my Ninna in front of a huge Christmas tree on the very rare occasions that she’s smiling for the camera. I guess the Christmas spirit is slowly getting to her. I can’t blame her, though, Christmas in Manila is always something to look forward to – a very merry event indeed. Now, I just need to find some gifts for her and for my many godchildren, too, hehe.

Birthday Ala Mardi Gras

mombday

All my mom needs now is a sexy pair of sparkly bikinis and she’s all set for the Mardi Gras carnivale! :D

Just kidding mommy!

Actually, this was taken during the birthday dinner we treated her to at Gumbo – a New Orleans-inspired restaurant off at Robinsons Place in Manila. The staff were so attentive that, without us telling them directly that it was my mom’s birthday, they somehow deduced that fact and then surprised mommy with a rousing medley of birthday jingles – to the extreme delight of my mom, of course! She even gamely donned the feathery head dress that they prepared for her. :D

This blog post was very delayed in coming but, even so, (belated) happy birthday Mommy! You don’t look a day over eighteen! Look at you, blooming na blooming, and you dont even need wrinkle creams! Hehe!

On your birthday and always, may all your days continue to be all merry and feathery. *muah*

Sand and Sun, Part 2

But wait, our vacation wasn’t over yet!

After our day at Sanibel, we spent our Sunday again at the beach. This time, we drove to Ft. Myers. If Sanibel was serene and secluded, Ft. Myers beach was hip and happening!

myers pier

The water wasn’t really as clear as we hoped it would be. I guess, its true that there are certain times of the year when the water isn’t too good. But then again, who’s to stop us? :D

myers family

We even got one nice lady to take a family picture of us. Proof that hubby and I are in dire need of appetite suppressants, haha!

And because we were at the beach at noon, it was so hot! Hubby had to carry Ninna from our beach umbrella down to the water because the sand was too hot for her to walk on.

After a while, we just gave up because we couldn’t handle the heat. To cool us down, we took a walk on the pier and basked in the beautiful views of the ocean.

It was a hot, tiring, wet, but wonderful weekend all around. Can’t wait to see what hubby and I will come up with for this coming weekend. :)

Sand and Sun, Part 1

Hubby and I were browsing through the netbooks in the mall the other day when we suddenly decided that we needed a much more exciting way to pass the time. So last weekend, we crossed off a “place to see before you die” from the list by going to lovely Sanibel Island. We went to two beaches, Bowman’s Beach and Lighthouse Beach, and ended up spending more time at Lighthouse.

Sanibel is famous for their shelling beaches. Ninna had a lot of fun doing her “sanibel stoop” as she stooped her way along the coast looking for her perfect shells.

And then, there was the swimming.

The water was shallow enough for Ninna to swim around by herself. She was really so excited! And I was excited, too! No clinging to me for dear life this time. :)

And then, there was the rain.

It cut our swimming short but that didn’t mean we couldn’t still play in the rain. :)

And to end our perfect Saturday on the islands, we drove to nearby Captiva Island to catch the perfect sunset.

Fort Desoto, East Beach

Our weekend was spent with friends at the East Beach of Fort Desoto. Two people were celebrating their birthdays so we were really filled to the brim with fun, food, and lots of sun. :) Even my dieting husband couldn’t resist the barbecues. Yummy but deadly, haha! One really needs to have life insurance quotes at the ready during such gatherings, haha!

desoto2
Our friends in deep water? Nope, actually, they’re like a hundred meters from the shore but the water is still a foot deep. :) They’re literally sitting pretty.

desoto3
A little kite flying action.

Unfortunately, our little party was cut short because a thunderstorm suddenly rolled in. Very dependable, weather bureau, very dependable.

However, I do know that there are a lot more beach outings in store for us. That’s what we love about Florida. :)

Ballast Point Pier and Park

While exploring Tampa, our new home, we came across Ballast Point Pier and Park while driving along Bayshore Blvd. A sucker for nice views and playgrounds, we just had to stop for a while.

Here’s Ninna taking full advantage of the swing sets.

And here we are at the Pier’s boardwalk.

ballastpoint4
Here’s a view of Downtown Tampa, via the 3x optical zoom of our point and shoot camera, hehe!

We had so much fun that, even after our seafood dinner at nearby Taste of Boston, we stayed until nighttime just basking in the serenity of the view and simply taking in the scent of the bay.

Nighttime at Tampa Bay.

I guess you can say, we found a new hang-out. :) We’ll be back, for sure!

The Serengeti

Not the real thing but close enough. :)

One of our favorite attractions at Busch Gardens in Tampa, FL is riding the Serengeti Express. We were there (yet again) last weekend thanks to our annual pass, hehe! :) We were supposed to go to Orlando, also to check out the Westgate properties that we’ve heard of so much about, but hubby had to work so he just dropped us off at Busch Gardens – our default hang-out. :)

tren1

The Serengeti Express runs the length of the entire theme park and offers a wonderful break from the heat of the sun as well as if you want a nice rest from walking around too much.

tren3
Case in point. My tired little wanderer.

What makes the Serengeti Express special, is that it chugs along the Serengeti Plain – a simulated safari that Busch Gardens is famous for.

tren2

With the train running at a leisurely pace, Ninna and I get to see a lot of cute animals in their “almost” natural habitat.

This horned animal (I forgot what it’s called).

A grazing zebra.

flamingos
And Ninna’s personal favorite, the flamingos.

Now that its the summer break, I sometimes have trouble thinking of activities to keep my daughter busy. Going to Busch Gardens is my sure bet. Not only does she get to enjoy riding on the rides, playing at the water park, and walking around the zoo-ish environment, she also gets to learn about the animals and has a lot fun doing so in the process. :)
