10 Things You Need To Plan For

This is so timely. My husband and I have just had this kind of discussion.

1. Our Daughter’s Education
I think this is pretty self explanatory.

2. Retirement
Because we are not about to burden our children with dependent old folks, hehe.

3. The Afterlife
Which is why we try to be good Christians in this life.

4. Natural Calamities
Having recently experienced one and really caught off-guard, next time, we definitely know better.

5. Our Second Child
We have been planning this for a while but it never pushes through because of one thing or another. Logistically, we know we’re prepared but, honestly, I still can’t understand what’s keeping us from finally doing this. Maybe we should stop planning for it and just take the plunge? Haha!

6. Christmas
I don’t know about you but where we are, Christmas is a big deal. I can just imagine how long my list is going to be, hehe.

7. Health
Perhaps a good colon cleanser will do? Haha!

8. A Comfortable Life for our Ageing Parents
They’ve spent their lives making our lives easier. I guess, now its our responsibility to make their twilight years as comfortable as they deserve it to be.

9. A Nice Long Vacation
We came back to Manila hoping for a relaxing vacation but ended up getting double doses of stress, hehe! Perhaps a nice one on the beach will do.

10. Our Big Move
Wherever that may be. :) We’re still eyeing that one place where we can dig our roots into.

10 Things That You Think Are Cool

Cool.

1. Cellphones (in general)
I can’t imagine life without a handphone now.

2. Athletes
At least the ones who don’t take performance enhancing drugs, hehe!

3. Facebook
Especially the games, hehe!

4. LCD TVs
TVs are cool in general, but thin, Full HD, energy-efficient, and high-contrast LCD TVs take the top spot for me.

5. Game Shows
I am a sucker for them, haha!

6. Electric cars
Or at least all of the cars that don’t run on fossil fuel anymore.

7. Mp3 Players
The Walkman was already amazing a couple of decades ago, but now, who could have thought that music players, which are smaller than the palm of your hand, could allow you to play more than a thousand songs?

8. The Black Eyed Peas
Aren’t they the coolest?

9. Target
I could spend a whole day there. Besides, walking on aisle after aisle after aisle seems to work for me better than effective weight loss pills. :)

10. Air Conditioning
Literally. It’s been so hot and humid lately, the AC has been both my and my little daughter’s savior.

10 Bad Habits You Cant Break

Just 10? Ask my hubby and he’ll say that’s not enough, hehehe!

1. Being at the computer a lot
At the expense of housework, hehe.

2. Nailbiting
Unfortunately, I think my daughter inherited this one from me.

3. Junkfood
I just can’t help it. I love to munch.

4. Avoiding the exercise machines
I don’t know why, but treadmills and such don’t motivate me enough.

5. Doing lots of things at the last minute
I’m probably the consummate crammer.

6. Handbag shopping
My hubby says that this habit is 100x worse than any smoking and drinking habit combined.

7. Smelling my food before I eat it
I don’t know where I picked up that habit but I just do it everytime!

8. Laughing when I’m stressed, nervous, or angry
I don’t know if that’s a habit per se, but I always do it.

9. Playing facebook games
Which has become pretty extreme because I have an addictive personality when it comes to challenges.

10. Sleeping late
Not good for the skin and body, I know. But I am a night person, so this one comes naturally to me.

10 Things You Hate About Traveling

Having done this just recently, everything is still soooo fresh!

1. Delayed/Cancelled flights
Our most recent one from LA to Tokyo was delayed for three hours! Arrgh. And then, our connecting flight from Narita to Manila was cancelled. Double aarrgh!!

2. Airport security checks
I know on some level that its for our own safety. But do we really, absolutely, have to take off our shoes???

3. Cranky traveling companions
And I don’t just mean the ones below seven years old. *wink*

4. Plane food
I sometimes woudd rather take horse supplements, haha!

5. Hotel Staff who have an Attitude Problem
A major major peeve of mine. If you’re in the hospitality business, then make darn sure you’re hospitable.

6. Extra charge for checked in baggage on domestic flights
I wonder who the heck thought of that bright idea.

7. 50 pound baggage weight limit for international flights
If I wanted to bring home some more heavy bricks, I should well be able to.

8. Packing and unpacking
Especially with the fifty pound limit.

9. Traveling alone
You have got to have somebody to share the (mis)adventures with.

10. Jet lag
Waking up at three in the morning, and then dozing off in the middle of an exciting activity at 3pm.

10 Favorite TV Characters

Here are my 10 favorite sounds.

1. Marie from Everybody Loves Raymond.
She always cracks me up. I’m really glad my mother-in-law is nothing like her and I also hope, though, that I won’t become her in the future. :D

2. Hiro Nakamura from Heroes
Such a lovable character. I love his powers, too.

3. The Two and A Half Men
I couldn’t choose just one among them, they’re all funny! They always have me rolling on the floor mats laughing.

4. McGyver
The last boy scout. :)

5. Horatio Caine from CSI: Miami
I know that some people don’t really like David Caruso’s character (or would prefer the other heads of CSIs). But to me, he’s the one who makes the show click. I love his one-liners! And his trademark sunglasses. :)

6. House
Who doesn’t love this guy?

7. Eli Stone
I’m sad that the show has been canceled. I loved it so much!

8. Peter Bishop from Fringe
Joshua Jackson is perfect for this role. He grew up nicely too. :D

9. Merlin
This is my current addiction. I love the Arthurian legends and their take on Merlin is fresh.

10. Bert from Sesame Street
Pigeons. Oatmeal. Bottle caps. Some kids love cookie monster, or big bird, or elmo. I love Bert.

10 Favorite Sounds

My second Ten on Tuesday (on a Thusday, haha!). If you missed the first one, it’s here.

Here are my 10 favorite sounds.

1. Ninna’s steady breathing when she’s asleep.
So peaceful. At the same time, I’m thankful that she’s alive and healthy and hopefully having the sweetest dreams.

2. Rain
Just the moderate kind, not the hurricane-y ones. :)

3. Baby sounds/cooing
Can’t help but coo, myself.

4. A perfectly tuned acoustic guitar playing “Man in The Mirror”
Once, a classmate of mine performed this for our school’s variety show. I was just floored! This is my ultimate favorite acoustic song.

5. Somebody speaking in a foreign language
French and Italian take the top spots.

6. Hubby snoring
Yes, really. Hearing his nighttime sounds calms me, perhaps because I find his presence beside me very reassuring. No need to put bed wedges between us. :)

7. The sound of the ocean
Which is why I love living in Florida – the ocean is always just a short drive away.

8. Opening notes of any concert, show, or performance
It always gives me a thrill. Plus, it also makes me happy that I’m there to experience it. :)

9. Wind chimes
So nice and twinkly, so calming.

10. The chaos at home during dinnertime
Especially when the entire family is present. I love it. :)

10 Favorite Places To Eat

Making up for lost time (opportunities) to join Ten on Tuesdays. I’ll be doing two today and here’s the first one: my ten favorite places to eat.

1. Jollibee
I miss it. It’s so “home”. Besides, it taught me a thing or two about taking things, even the most ubiquitous ones, for granted. :)

2. Obrycki’s
I just can’t stop talking about it. This Baltimore crab place will always be number two on my list.

3. Ikea Food Court
Call me crazy but I love their meatballs, hehe.

4. Any dig that serves great sisig
Gerry’s, Dencio’s, Crocodile Grill, and most especially Aling Lucing’s. They don’t even have to have dog ramps for my pets for me to love them.

5. Five Guys
Free peanuts, haha!

6. Earl Of Sandwich
I love sandwiches and this one is royalty.

7. Tin Tin
Its a seafood and chinese buffet in Charlotte. Their crab legs are worth driving for.

8. Any Brunch Place
Brunch is my favorite meal of the day. We used to go to Bob Evans in KY and NC, J. Christopher’s in Atlanta, and now its love for The Brunchery in Tampa.

9. Dampa
It’s wet market-slash-eatery where you buy the ingredients (seafood especially) from the market and then have any one of the eateries cook it for you any which way you like. My mouth is watering for chili shrimp and crabs right now.

10. At home
With a great home-cooked meal cooked by my husband, hehe!

10 Things You’d Bring To A Deserted Island

It’s been a while since I’ve done my Tuesday list. I’ve been sooo busy! What I would give to be stranded on a deserted island right now so that I could get some rest, haha! Anyway, these are what I would bring:

1. A Lighter
Fire! Aside from the fact that I’d want something to signal any passing rescue ship at night, as well as to keep me warm, I don’t think I could eat raw fish (and I don’t mean sushi).

2. Blanket
I can live without a pillow, but I can’t live without a blanket.

3. Toilet paper, haha!
I’m really not asking for a total bathroom complete with porcelain tiles, all I ask is a little bit of civilization. I’ll only use the leaves if and when my TP runs out. :D

4. A Knife
An all-purpose one.

5. A Bikini
Since this will probably be the only time I could wear one without being too self-conscious, haha!

6. A cellphone
There’s really no excuse not to have cellphone reception anywhere. A solar powered cellphone is even better (if there is one).

7. Books
All the books on my nightstand that I’ve always wanted to read but have never had the chance.

8. Drinking Water
Don’t trust me to harvest rainwater or to distill sea water. I don’t know how!

9. A Volleyball
According to a certain movie, Wilson could be a great friend. :)

10. A hot guy
And that would be my husband. :)

10 Favorite Things To Do During “Me” Time

More 10 on Tuesdays (on a Thursday, haha!). Here are the ten things I’d like to do on my downtime.

1. Watch Movies
Movie marathons, yey! I can go through six movies in a day without throwing up, haha! Seriously, I love movies so I make it a point to watch as many as I can when I have the time.

2. Read
Same with movies, I love books! There’s nothing more relaxing than curling up with a great book.

3. Spa Pedicure
Some girls prefer to do this by themselves. Me? No. I have to go to the salon for this. Aside from the fact that my flabby tummy prevents me from reaching my toes, I just love the feeling of being pampered down there (my feet, I mean).

4. Sleep
Self explanatory. Can’t get enough of it.

5. Surf the Blog World
I haven’t been doing this in a while, though, but I do love bloghopping! I’m chismosa by nature so I have this need to know what’s going on in the world. Must do this again soon!

6. A Long Hot Soak In The Tub
I love running a hot bath, so hot that I could almost trip the fire alarm systems, hehe! And then, I love feeling all the aches and pains of my old bones cool down and wash away with the water.

7. Watch Games Shows
I love game shows, especially those that deal in trivia. But if I can’t find a good game show, I make do with a good reality show – ok fine, its a guilty pleasure of mine. :)

8. Go To The Mall
For the exercise. *wink*

9. Update My Blogs
Especially my personal blogs. I’ve been so busy that I’ve sort of neglected them. I hope the universe will give me a whole week of “me” time. :D

10. Find Something Good To Eat
Mind you, not “cook” but “find”. :) I’m already in the kitchen most of the time so, if I had my way, I would hunt down yummy food items everywhere else – in the grocery store, at the food court in the mall, at some of the finer bakeries and restaurants in my area, somewhere! And then happily do #8. :D

10 Celebrities You Are Tired Of

Ranting, are we? Ok then, these are the celebrities that I’d rather not hear any more of.

1. Amy Winehouse
Stop already.

2. That HipHop Guy With A Huge Wall Clock Around His Neck
Whassisname?

3. Denise Richards
I don’t know. She just comes across as… desperate.

4. Lindsay Lohan
She looks so wasted for a girl her age. I guess she’s entitled to live her life to the fullest but, I don’t think that mindset should have included overdosing on alcohol, ma huang, and fame. Sad.

5. Lindsay Lohan’s Mom
The ultimate stage mom. Whatever is happening the daughter now, we can directly attribute to the parents. That’s what I think.

6. David Hasselhoff
Like Paula Abdul, he is such a hassle to watch.

7. Stephen Baldwin
I’m tired of seeing him in every reality show he can weasel his way into. He has to learn to face the fact that he’s not as good-looking as his brothers.

8 and 9. Jon and Kate Gosselin
I was one of the people who was inspired by them. Now, I am just so disgusted at how immaturely they have handled this situation. If they deserved all of their good fortune before, they don’t deserve them now.

10. Octomom
Is she even a celebrity?? All she did was show to the world how crazy some people can be. Poor poor kids. I really am praying that something good comes out of all of this.
