10 Things That Scare/Freak You Out

Not a lot scares or freaks me out. My being too calm actually freaks my husband out, haha! But, of course, there are some things that spook me, and here are my ten:

1. I know a lot of moms will relate to this but: the phone number of my daughter’s school flashing on my caller ID literally halts my respiration.

2. My hard drive crashing. Along with it my documents and pictures.

3. Losing my handbag, with my entire life in the hands of the unknown. And the task of reporting, cancelling, re-applying, re-stocking the contents of my purse is just pretty daunting.

4. Likewise, losing my luggage in the airport. I can’t get the image of my trusty Samsonite landing somewhere in Yemen or Qatar or Zimbabwe.

5. Fire. Ok fine, I’d rather lose things or be robbed than lose everything in a fire.

6. Creepy crawlies and wild beasts. Wild humans included.

7. Drunk and sleepy drivers. Refer to #6.

8. Joan Rivers.

9. The state of the economy and hubby’s job security.

10. Losing loved ones or them getting critically ill.

What ten things scare or freak you out?

10 Ways the World Has Changed Since You’ve Been in School

I think that there are various ways to interpret the topic for this week. So, I decided to list down 5 things that changed about going to school since I’ve been in school and then the final 5 things will be a list for the world in general. Ok?

Here I go…

1. All kids (and I mean even those in grade school) have cellphones.

2. Reports are no longer typewritten. (Now you know it has really been a while since I’ve gone to school).

3. Metal detectors in school have become SOP.

4. Teachers can no longer make you do what you need to (and don’t want to) do.

5. You can now get a degree online.

6. Whereas my parents used to give me an allowance, now as an adult I have to work hard for the money.

7. Most students then preferred to major in Accounting and Finance or Business Management because these were the careers that made the most money (aside from Law and Medicine, of course). Now, people are more into the allied medical professions (nursing, physical, speech, and occupational therapy) and computer technology.

8. And because teaching isn’t as lucrative as the careers mentioned above, there has been a shortage of educators and they now need to be imported, too. Sharing resources?

9. Spanish and/or French used to be the only foreign languages taught in schools, now there’s Chinese, Japanese, and a host of other European and Asian languages, too. I guess it signifies how global we are truly becoming.

10. Google.

What has changed for you since you’ve been in school (the good ole days of acne treatment desperation for some of us, as it were)?

10 Movies I’m Excited To See

I am looking forward to seeing these movies:

1. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
:: I am an Indy fan as I’m sure a lot of you are, too!

2. The Dark Knight
:: To see Heath one last time.

3. The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
:: I love this series by CS Lewis and I loved how they did the first movie, almost staying true to the story. I hope they do the same with Prince Caspian.

4. Forbidden Kingdom
:: Jackie Chan and Jet Li, who could ask for a better team-up?

5. You Don’t Mess With The Zohan
:: Adam Sandler always cracks me up. Always.

6. Mamma Mia
:: I was lucky enough to see the theater production a while back and I enjoyed it immensely. With Meryll Streep at the helm of this movie, with Pierce Brosnan no less, I am expecting great things.

7. The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor
:: I’m a fan of the first two installments. The first one was surprisingly great and the second one exceeded! I hope the third one will be just as exciting and nail-biting.

8. High School Musical 3: Senior Year
:: It’s the teeny-bopper in me, I have to admit. Anyway, it’s a shame not to see the third one after my daughter and I enjoyed the first two, right?

9. The Happening
:: Have I told you yet that I am an M. Night Shyamalan fan? Yes, I am, and a big one. I seldom watch Thrillers because some of them can be either really gory or really stupid. Shyamalan’s movies are always so well-written and so unexpected.

10. Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince
:: Pottermaniacs, awaken from your slumber! I seriously can’t wait until November.

How about you? What movies are you excited to see?

10 Places I’d Love To Travel To

It’s my first Ten on Tuesday List. Yey!

I would love to travel to these ten places (just ten? awww!):

1. The Great Wall and the Forbidden City, China
I love visiting evidence of ancient civilizations. As an Asian, these landmarks are a must-visit for me.

2. The Pyramids of Egypt
Did I just say that I love visiting evidence of ancient civilization? :)

3. Athens and Santorini, Greece
I saw Santorini when my girl, Giada, featured it on the food network one time. Everything looked so picturesque I just started to dream of going there myself. And Athens, well, let’s just say it’s all thanks to Edith Hamilton and Sherrilyn Kenyon.

4. Paris, France
To visit Paris in the springtime… wow. Hermes, Chanel, and LV are simply calling my name.

5. The Maldives and Seychelles
Give me the tropics anytime. And a cabana boy. Oh, wait I already have one, haha! (hi hubs!)

6. Machu Picchu, Peru
I never really understood the history behind Machu Picchiu until I saw one particular segment of it on the Discovery Channel. I just want to go there now. Right now.

7. Scotland and Ireland
I got the urge to visit these places, I guess, from reading too many historical books. I love history and I think the history of these two countries are so rich that it just reflects on the architecture of their buildings and castles. To be a princess for a day…

8. Antarctica
Hair-brained choice, I know. I was thinking Happy Feet.

9. The Amalfi Coast and Venice, Italy
For the romance. And the food. And the history. That’s amore.

10. The Holy Land (Jerusalem)
I hope to do a pilgrimage if its the last thing I’ll ever do in my life.

I guess all of these places are on your travel lists, too. Anyway, I guess I need to travel to the nearest lottery booth right away so I can win and definitely get this travelling started. :)
