Legend and Lore

More Friday5!
1. Most neighborhoods have at least one place that’s (according to lore) haunted. What the haunted place in your neighborhood (or in the neighborhood where you grew up), and what’s the story?
:: We lived in a small subdivision in the suburbs and there was this one house that nobody “seemed” to live in, and that’s because we couldn’t see anybody entering or leaving the house. It was painted all white, from the fence to the walls, windows, and doors, which I guess prompted every kid in the neighborhood to call it “The White House”. Although we thought nobody lived in the house, though, there would always be light in one of the bedrooms downstairs at night. Until now, I still don’t know who lives/lived in that house.
2. Most neighborhoods have at least one place where some kid (according to legend) did something daring, dangerous, and most likely stupid. What’s the place in your neighborhood (or in the neighborhood where you grew up), and what’s the story?
:: There’s a creek behind our house that lots of people believe is home to some huge snakes. Sometimes, I see some kids walking up to the creek with a stick, presumably to look for snakes. And yes, actually they would sometimes bring up a snake or two from the creek. And yes, unfortunately, a few have been bitten in the process, too, being carried out with a tourniquet. I’m sure these might have given them an idea to take up a health care career in the future, or at least gain a little more common sense.
3. Most neighborhoods have some lame building (like a bank or a gas station) where there used to be something much, much cooler. What’s the place in your neighborhood (or in the neighborhood where you grew up), and what’s the story?
:: There was a convenience store right beside our house that used to be the hang-out of some great television actors. It was even used as a backdrop for a couple of old movies, too. The store has since been torn down and turned into a Chinese restaurant. :(
4. In most neighborhoods of our youths, there are a few places that almost always cause us to say, “That’s the place where I _________.” What’s one such place in the neighborhood where you grew up, and what’s the story?
:: Walking home from school, there was this old newstand that sold anything from newspapers to comics. “That’s the place where I bought my first comic books.” I used to not eat lunch so that I could use the money to buy “Funny Comics” and read about Niknok to my hearts’ content.
5. Where in the neighborhood where you grew up would you most likely run into someone today who knew you when you were a kid?
:: The church. :)
