Preferences

Which do you prefer?

* Reading something frivolous? Or something serious?
Something serious. I’m currently reading The Plot to Save Socrates.

* Paperbacks? Or hardcovers?
Hardcovers. If I can afford them, haha!

* Fiction? Or Nonfiction?
Definitely fiction.

* Poetry? Or Prose?
Poetry.

* Biographies? Or Autobiographies?
Biographies. I find autobiographies sometimes to self-serving.

* History? Or Historical Fiction?
Historical fiction. But they have to have a good foundation on historical facts.

* Series? Or Stand-alones?
Series. Good stand-alones are hard to find, like loose diamonds.

* Classics? Or best-sellers?
Best-sellers.

* Lurid, fruity prose? Or straight-forward, basic prose?
Straight-forward basic prose.

* Plots? Or Stream-of-Consciousness?
Plots.

* Long books? Or Short?
Short. Unless its a really good book then I wouldn’t want it to end. :)

* Illustrated? Or Non-illustrated?
Non-illustrated.

* Borrowed? Or Owned?
Thanks to the local library, borrowed. :) But if I really love/d a book, I would make sure that I’d own a personal copy.

* New? Or Used?
Doesn’t really matter. As long as its good. :)

Sign at a Motorist Rest Area taken along I-75 Northbound from Orlando, FL.

Let me say that again. This photo was taken at a rest area for motorists. Imagine, pulling over to relax and stretch your legs after a long drive, and then a poisonous snake comes slithering along… gee, thanks a lot.

Oh well,  like apidexin as a magic pill for obesity, a warning about deadly creatures is better than nothing, I guess.

Tagged [Fifteen Books]

Nell tagged me via Facebook to list down fifteen of my favorite books. Word for word, he said:

Your favorites.
Don’t think, just type.
Tag 15, or whoever are still part of that dying breed who read books.

Here I go!

1. Harry Potter Series (JK Rowling)
2. The Prophet (Khalil Gibran)
3. All of Jodi Picoult’s Books.
4. The Time Traveller’s Wife (Audrey Niffenegger)
5. The History of Love (Nicole Krauss)
6. Paradise (Judith McNaught)
7. The Dark Hunter Series (Sherrilyn Kenyon)
8. The Shopaholic Series (Sophie Kinsella)
9. Dr Seuss Books
10. The Class (Erich Segal)
11. The Chamber (John Grisham)
12. The Vampire Lestat (Anne Rice)
13. Twenty Poems of Love and A Song of Despair (Pablo Neruda)
14. The Fountainhead (Ayn Rand)
15. Pilgrim at Tinker Creek (Annie Dillard)

Nell, fifteen is not enough! My favorite books just gushed out of me like water gushing out of good quality discount faucets. Thanks for this tag, I enjoyed it! :)

10 Favorite Sounds

My second Ten on Tuesday (on a Thusday, haha!). If you missed the first one, it’s here.

Here are my 10 favorite sounds.

1. Ninna’s steady breathing when she’s asleep.
So peaceful. At the same time, I’m thankful that she’s alive and healthy and hopefully having the sweetest dreams.

2. Rain
Just the moderate kind, not the hurricane-y ones. :)

3. Baby sounds/cooing
Can’t help but coo, myself.

4. A perfectly tuned acoustic guitar playing “Man in The Mirror”
Once, a classmate of mine performed this for our school’s variety show. I was just floored! This is my ultimate favorite acoustic song.

5. Somebody speaking in a foreign language
French and Italian take the top spots.

6. Hubby snoring
Yes, really. Hearing his nighttime sounds calms me, perhaps because I find his presence beside me very reassuring. No need to put bed wedges between us. :)

7. The sound of the ocean
Which is why I love living in Florida – the ocean is always just a short drive away.

8. Opening notes of any concert, show, or performance
It always gives me a thrill. Plus, it also makes me happy that I’m there to experience it. :)

9. Wind chimes
So nice and twinkly, so calming.

10. The chaos at home during dinnertime
Especially when the entire family is present. I love it. :)

10 Favorite Places To Eat

Making up for lost time (opportunities) to join Ten on Tuesdays. I’ll be doing two today and here’s the first one: my ten favorite places to eat.

1. Jollibee
I miss it. It’s so “home”. Besides, it taught me a thing or two about taking things, even the most ubiquitous ones, for granted. :)

2. Obrycki’s
I just can’t stop talking about it. This Baltimore crab place will always be number two on my list.

3. Ikea Food Court
Call me crazy but I love their meatballs, hehe.

4. Any dig that serves great sisig
Gerry’s, Dencio’s, Crocodile Grill, and most especially Aling Lucing’s. They don’t even have to have dog ramps for my pets for me to love them.

5. Five Guys
Free peanuts, haha!

6. Earl Of Sandwich
I love sandwiches and this one is royalty.

7. Tin Tin
Its a seafood and chinese buffet in Charlotte. Their crab legs are worth driving for.

8. Any Brunch Place
Brunch is my favorite meal of the day. We used to go to Bob Evans in KY and NC, J. Christopher’s in Atlanta, and now its love for The Brunchery in Tampa.

9. Dampa
It’s wet market-slash-eatery where you buy the ingredients (seafood especially) from the market and then have any one of the eateries cook it for you any which way you like. My mouth is watering for chili shrimp and crabs right now.

10. At home
With a great home-cooked meal cooked by my husband, hehe!

Fort Desoto, East Beach

Our weekend was spent with friends at the East Beach of Fort Desoto. Two people were celebrating their birthdays so we were really filled to the brim with fun, food, and lots of sun. :) Even my dieting husband couldn’t resist the barbecues. Yummy but deadly, haha! One really needs to have life insurance quotes at the ready during such gatherings, haha!

My little beach babe with her usual pail and shovel.

desoto2
Our friends in deep water? Nope, actually, they’re like a hundred meters from the shore but the water is still a foot deep. :) They’re literally sitting pretty.

desoto3
A little kite flying action.

Unfortunately, our little party was cut short because a thunderstorm suddenly rolled in. Very dependable, weather bureau, very dependable.

However, I do know that there are a lot more beach outings in store for us. That’s what we love about Florida. :)

Ballast Point Pier and Park

While exploring Tampa, our new home, we came across Ballast Point Pier and Park while driving along Bayshore Blvd. A sucker for nice views and playgrounds, we just had to stop for a while.

ballastpoint1
Here’s Ninna taking full advantage of the swing sets.

ballastpoint2
And here we are at the Pier’s boardwalk.

ballastpoint4
Here’s a view of Downtown Tampa, via the 3x optical zoom of our point and shoot camera, hehe!

We had so much fun that, even after our seafood dinner at nearby Taste of Boston, we stayed until nighttime just basking in the serenity of the view and simply taking in the scent of the bay.

ballastpoint3
Nighttime at Tampa Bay.

I guess you can say, we found a new hang-out. :) We’ll be back, for sure!
