WS27: My Girl’s Got Gifts

Weeks after my daughter celebrated her 5th birthday, she still receives birthday gifts in the mail from our friends and family, particularly those who weren’t able to attend her party.

From my amiga, Meldita and her daughter Vera in Manila, Ninna got this.

From our friends, Melanie and her daughter Gabz in Bellevue, Ninna got this.

And from our dear friends, the Munchkin Family from Austin, she got these.

(Sorry, my daughter doesn’t like looking directly at the flash of my camera, hehehe!)

Thank you very much for the gifts! They are perfect and we love them a lot. :) The thank you cards will be in the mail, as soon as I am able to make even one of our printers to work, hehe!

~~~
Thanks for viewing snapshots of my daughter’s belated long-distance birthday loot.
A very early movie date is HERE at my other weekend snapshot.
More weekend snapshots HERE.
LP38: Karoling
Litratong Pinoy
Nalulungkot ako dahil ang pagkakaroling ay isang tradisyon na aking nakagisnan tuwing Pasko na hindi magawa-gawa ng aking anak dito sa aming malayong tahanan. Nandiyan yung pa-piso-piso na kinikita, yung hahabulin ka ng aso, yung tataguan ka o papatayan wari ng ilaw, ang mga instrumentong gawa sa pinitpit na tansan, at ang mga titik ng kantang mali-mali pero dinadaan na lang sa stage presence. Haay, nakaka-miss.
Kaya heto, ang mga dwende na lang na ito (at isang penguin) ang aawit para sa amin.
Thank you, thank you, ang babait ninyo, thank you. :)
By the way, pasensiya na po at hindi ako nakakaikot-ikot sa mga lahok ninyo, mga friends. Pag ganitong panahon kasi ay patong-patong ang mga gawain. Pero sisikapin kong bisitahin kayo ngayong linggo, promise. :)
At ang utang kong mahalagang regalo ay ginawa ko na rin. Bisitahin niyo na rin kung mamarapatin, kung hindi naman ay oks lang. :)
LP37: Mahalagang Regalo [Precious Gift]
Litratong Pinoy
Masyadong naging masalimuot po ang aking nakaraang linggo kaya naman hindi ako nakapag-sumite ng lahok para sa temang Mahalagang Regalo.
Pero, heto at ihahabol ko pa rin. :)
Hindi lingid sa kaalaman ng aking malalapit na kamag-anak at kaibigan na lubha akong nahirapan sa pagbubuntis. Sa katunayan, naipasya ng Diyos na ibalik sa piling Niya ang aming sana’y naging unang supling. Naging mahirap para sa aming mag-asawa na tanggapin ang pasya Niyang ito, subalit naniniwala kami na ang lahat ng ito ay isang matindi ngunit hitik ng pag-asang pagsubok ng aming pananampalataya na alam naming kaya naming lagpasan.
Hindi naman kami nabigo dahil lumipas lamang ang ilang buwan ay ginulat kami ni Lord. Hindi namin inasahan ngunit biglang ibinigay Niya sa amin ang batang magpahanggang-ngayo’y itinuturing naming pinakamahalagang regalo na sa amin ay ibiniyaya.
Sabi nila, bilang mga magulang, ang pinaka-mahalagang regalo naman na aming puwedeng ibahagi sa mundo ay ang pagluluwal ng isang bata na lalaking isang mabuting tao, maka-Diyos, masipag, handang humarap sa mga hamon ng mundo, maaruga sa kapakanan ng kapaligiran, at magbibigay ng karangalan sa kabuuan ng sankatauhan.
Heto si Ninna, ang aming sana’y maging handog sa mundo.
Wala nang mas hahalaga pa sa regalong ito, DITO, ang aking isa pang LP entry.
10 Best Gifts I’ve Ever Given
The list for this week, I think, is a bit difficult to answer because the people at the receiving end may be the best persons to tell us what my best gifts have been. For me, though, all of the gifts I give are special if only for the extra effort I put in to give someone what they truly want (as much as I can or afford, of course, haha!) .
Anyway, I’ll try to remember the ones that really made me happy to give out and would never ever regret having given. :)
1. Graduating from school. I guess some will say that this is actually my responsibility as a daughter, and not a gift at all. However, because I knew how important this achievement was to my parents, even if they simply expected me to finish school, I did it in a blaze of glory – all those years of study with hardly any cause for a headache on their part, with even a few honors here and there, and of course a beautiful and distinctive diploma that they now proudly hang on the wall for everyone to see. Their gift to me was an education, I gifted them with (hopefully) pride for themselves and of me.
2. My decisive yet sweet “I Do”. It was close to Christmas when I accepted my husband’s proposal so, in a way, it also made his Christmas all the more memorable. I was a hard one to woo, largely because I had very huge trust issues going on at that time. But he persevered because he knew in his heart, even before I did, that we were meant to be together. So when I said yes, I could never forget the happiness that I brought into his eyes. I hope, though, he still thinks of me the same way now, haha!
3. A Chicken Meal. Before my husband and I came to the States, we have made it a promise to roam the streets of Manila every Christmas Eve to give out a simple meal to some homeless families on the streets. It’s not much but it was always our prayer that, as the meager noche buena filled their bellies, a spirit of hope would fill their hearts as well.
4. A Child’s Blanket. Our church has a Christmas tree with some red tags on it. What one has to do is to simply get one of the tags, buy and wrap whatever is written on it, and place it back under the tree. The tag that I got read: Child’s Blanket – I didn’t even think, I just went into a store, got the fluffiest and softest one I could find, wrapped it up, and left it under the tree. It somehow gave me this feeling of immense joy – knowing that somewhere, soon, Christmas will be a warm one for one little child.
5. Food. That I cooked, hehe! I’m not much of a cook. Honestly, I cook to survive and not to impress! *wink* But in the few times that I’ve shared a dish or a dessert, I always felt really proud of myself for giving something that I’ve made with my own two hands. I’m just really glad that no one has had any food poisoning from any of it, hehe!
6. My full dedication as a SAHM. Some people never seem to tire of telling me time and time again that I may possibly be wasting my education and (aherm) intelligence by opting to stay home and care for my family. But, becoming a SAHM was a conscious choice, and something that I really had to think hard about before I applied myself whole-heartedly to the task. And my family, especially my husband, appreciates it more than he can ever say. Actually, now having this blessed opportunity and option to be a SAHM, which many women can only hope to be especially in these difficult times, has become more of a gift to me than mine for my family.
7. Friendship. I may not be a rich person but I have wide arms, big listening ears, and lots of laughter to share with those who honor me with their friendship. Once we’re friends, we’re friends forever – that, I can guarantee.
8. Prayers. Because there are some things that money can never buy.
9. Books. The truth is, I love receiving books as gifts so, in return, I love giving out books, too. The things you can learn from books, you could never truly measure. I also appreciate seeing the people I gifted books with, once they absorb the stories or learnings, would also share the book with others so that they may pass on the experience. In a world where entertainment can easily be had from electronic devices and such, the comfort of curling up with a good book is a slowly diminishing pleasure that I pray won’t completely go away.
10. My daughter. Some say that the best gift you can give the world is to bring forth a child who will grow up to be a bright, productive, compassionate, and loving human being. So far, I can say that my husband and I are on our way to fulfilling that gift. Let’s see in a few years’ time if you’re going to ask me for a return receipt, hehe.
Whew, I thought I would never reach ten, hehe! And look, the things I wrote down turned out to be gifts that money couldn’t buy. (I guess, I’m too cheap? Haha!)
How about you? What are the 10 best gifts you have given?
If you’re in the DC area and a loved one needs a little boost with their smile, consider gifting them with a visit to a Washington DC cosmetic dentistry office. You’re never fully dressed without a great smile! :)
Two
My daughter with two of her fans.
Actually, I first thought that they just could not resist the allure of my daughter’s natural beauty. As it turns out, its the allure of her Nintendo DS that they could not resist, haha! (At least, its a huge balm to my protective instincts, much like miraculous diet pills are for my stubborn belly fat. Not until you’re thirty, babe! Hehe!).
LP36: Excited
Litratong Pinoy
Narito ang aking anak na excited na excited tuwing kami ay pumupunta sa dalampasigan. Basta dalhin mo lang siya sa beach, isang malaking digmaan ang magaganap bago mo siya mapa-ahon. Buti na lang at wala siyang takot sa paglangoy sa dagat, hindi tulad ko. Dati kasi, sa sobrang excited kong mag-beach, muntik na akong malunod, hehe! Kaya hayun.
Here is my daughter who obviously loves the ocean. You would never ever miss seeing the excitement in her eyes whenever she hears even a single break of a wave, or when her toes begin to touch the sand and sea. We are definitely island peeps. Definitely.
10 Ways You Can Save Money
After all the craziness of Black Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, I don’t know if I’m even qualified to make this list, haha! On normal days, though, this is how I save:
1. Never pay at retail price. Except for luxury items that you could never buy discounted, there’s always a coupon, rebate, cashback, or discount out there, somewhere, for any of your purchases. What you can save from your purchases, you can use to buy other things. That’s stretching your dollar for you.
2. Wear a sweater. For one, I dislike turning on the heater inside our home, as far as I’m able, because the heat literally gives me nosebleeds. Instead of cranking up the thermostat, I just put on a sweater or cuddle with someone to recycle body heat *wink*.
3. Sleep early. Not only does it do your body good, but most home appliances like the TV, computer, stereo system, as well as the lights are turned off early, too. More healthy energy saved for your body, less electrical energy consumed.
4. Doing Full Loads of Laundry. Maximizing the space that your washer has also maximizes your savings.
5. Use Cloth Diapers. I know how convenient a disposable diaper really is if you have a baby, but by using washable cloth diapers, you save at least a hundred dollars minimum in your budget.
6. Drive Instead of Fly. Whenever you have to travel somewhere, especially if it involves only eight to ten hours of drive time, and most especially if you have a family of four or more, just drive it. For one, you can bring as many stuff as you want to keep everybody entertained without having to pay for excess baggage, if any. Plus, with the low price of gas these days, it makes better sense.
7. Have Home-Cooked Meals. For the cost of one meal out with the whole family, you can already have a week’s worth of fresh, home-cooked food.
8. Get A Library Card or Download Free Ebooks. I take home about 3 books and 5 DVDs a week from the library and, if my eyes can still take it, go through about two more ebooks in a week. I can’t begin to count how much I’ve saved by taking full advantage of the library. And, best of all, its free!
9. Subscribe to a VOIP Service. We only pay a flat rate of $25/month to call family and friends anywhere in the US and Canada, as well as some countries overseas. Our old phone service, even with a bundle, used to cost a minimum of $33/month and that’s without long-distance calling and other special features like call waiting, forwarding, etc. Of course, you will need high-speed internet for it to work but, who doesn’t have fast internet nowadays? You will be surprised by the great service as well as the great savings!
10. Keep a Piggy Bank. Never underestimate the power of spare change. I have been shooting my spare change into an old tin can for the past two months. I actually saved enough to buy myself and my daughter a pair of matching sweaters (see #2, haha!).
How about you? What are your 10 Ways to Save Money?
Thankful
For the little things that bloom despite the cold, bleak, wintry days. For those that endure. For they who  give love. For life, its battles, and its triumphs. For hope.
Tagged [Best Gift Ever]
I have this super long overdue tag from Em. My answer to this meme has actually been sitting for a while in my Drafts, waiting for the perfect moment for it to be published. Well, since it’s only a few more days before Christmas, I guess now is the perfect time. (Yeah, right! Haha!)
Advanced Happy Holidays (and Gift-giving) every one! :)
— The Best Gift Ever —
A young man was getting ready to graduate from college. For many months he had admired a beautiful sports car in a dealer’s showroom and knowing his father could well afford it, he told him that was all he wanted. As Graduation Day approached, the young man awaited signs that his father had purchased the car. Finally, on the morning of his graduation his father called him into his private study. His father told him how proud he was to have such a fine son, and told him how much he loved him. He handed his son a beautiful wrapped gift box. Curious, but somewhat disappointed, the young man opened the box and found a lovely, leather-bound Bible, with the young man’s name embossed in gold. Angrily, he raised his voice to his father and said, “With all your money you give me a Bible?” And stormed out of the house, leaving the Bible. Many years passed and the young man was very successful in business. He had a beautiful home and wonderful family, but realized his father was very old and thought perhaps he should go to him. He had not seen him since that graduation day. Before he could make arrangements, he received a telegram telling him his father had passed away, and willed all of his possessions to his son. He needed to come home immediately and take care of things. When he arrived at his father’s house, sudden sadness and regret filled his heart. He began to search through his father’s important papers and saw the still new Bible, just as he had left it years ago. With tears, he opened the Bible and began to turn the pages. His father had carefully underlined a verse,
Matt 7:11, “And if ye, being evil know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your Heavenly father which is in heaven, give to those who ask Him?”
As he read those words, a car key dropped from the back of the Bible. It had a tag with the dealer’s name, the same dealer who had the sports car he had desired. On the tag was the date of his graduation, and the words… PAID IN FULL.
How many times do we miss God’s blessing because they are not packaged as we expected? I trust you enjoyed this. Pass it on to others. Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not; but remember that what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for…
PLS. SEND THIS TO AT LEAST FIVE PEOPLE SO AS TO LET THIS GREAT LESSON FLOW AROUND.
What did I learn from this?
Like the Dad, God works in wondrous (and sometimes, not very obvious) ways. But He does give us what we need (and sometimes want), it just comes in different packages.
Its also a lesson in being thankful. For anything and everything.
So, whatever you plan to give me for the holidays, you can be sure I’ll be really thankful. *wink* :)
Tagged [Christmas Wish]
After Thanksgiving comes Christmas. :) So here’s the first of, I’m sure, a lot of Christmas-inspired memes yet to come.
This one is from Dyes.
Here’s something nice to go around to spread the spirit of Christmas as early as now. Starts here. It’s so simple. Copy the photo above then write your blog and your wish this Christmas 2008. Your wish has to be something PRICELESS and SELF-LESS… something that money can’t buy… something that another person will treasure dearly.
Here is my wish: that despite the economic slump we are in right now, we can all find happiness in the simplest of things, and may all of these glad tidings be wondrous.
~~~

What is your wish?

More Christmas wishes after the jump.
