10 Of The Best Meals I’ve Had

Just ten? :D I love to eat so I find the limitation quite limiting, hehe.

1. The Crabs at Obrycki’s will always get the number one spot on any food list of mine. I used to hate eating crabs but after the first hammer fell on the first claw, I was in love.

2. Actually, I don’t remember now what I ate at this out-of-the-way restaurant called Blue Bacon and Green Eggs. The food wasn’t particularly memorable, as was the ambiance, but my husband did surprise me with an engagement ring for dessert so, whatever I ate back then, was the best.

3. When I was but a rookie employee, my favorite boss let me tag along with her for a lunch meeting with a very high profile politician. Of course, I was speechless during the meeting, not because I was overwhelmed to be in the presence of such a venerable person but because I couldn’t stop eating the yummy yummy yummy sushi and sashimi feast that was laid out before me - good riddance to poise and professionalism. The restaurant is called Furusato.

4. A simple meal of Gray’s Papaya hotdog and a glass of lemonade, my first time in New York City, with one of my long-lost good friends. The best.

5. I remember this one particular night, I trudged on home, depressed, because my boss just gave me a severe tongue-lashing for something that I didn’t do nor deserved. I called my husband (of three weeks) to say that I was on my way home. He asked if I wanted to eat out, just so I could forget the ugly day that I had. I said, no, I just wanted to go home and not do anything. When I got home, there was a wonderful bowl of Sinigang na Baboy waiting for me, cooked by my husband. I never liked Sinigang at all, since I didn’t care for sour soups or stew. It was my husband’s comfort food, though, but he made the effort to cook for me thinking that it would comfort me too. And it did. From that moment on, I became a Sinigang girl. :)

6. Just the other day, a glass of orange juice and crackers, prepared for me by my 4-year old daughter because I was not feeling well. She said she would have prepared some noodle soup for me (like I always do when she’s sick), she’s just not allowed to tinker with the stove yet, hehe. God, I love that girl.

7. I have to say, my wedding day, too. I didn’t really eat much but I know it was definitely one of the best meals I have had, ever.

8. At Mario’s in Morato, its one of the few times I remember my Dad taking the family out for dinner when I was younger. I found the Ceasar Salad of my dreams here, and a memory of my workaholic Dad who made the effort to spend some time with his kids.

9. I think I am one of the few women in my family who do (did) not know how to cook. So when we moved to the US, I had nothing but boiled water to say for my culinary talents. Thanks to my husband, I cooked our family’s meal for the very first time, a Tinola (which was a little bit bland, the veggies were a little soggy, and the chicken was a bit undercooked). That meal started my love-hate affair with the kitchen. :)

10. A home-cooked meal with my family (sans the food throwing, haha) is always a best meal.

What’s Your Real Age?

I turned thirty-three this year.  That fact sometimes surprises some people because, as I’ve been told, I look much younger than I really am. I sincerely hope, though, that they are making a direct reference to my physical age and not my mental age, haha! Anyway, this prompted me to take the RealAge Test from RealAge.com, in order to know the actual biological age of my body based on how well I have maintained it over the years.

Logo

The result? I am five years younger than my actual age! Woohoo! It probably has a lot to do with the fact that I live a fairly healthy lifestyle - no alcohol, no cigarettes, regular exercise with a reasonably balanced diet, and that I haven’t had a lot of things happen to stress me out so much over the years. At least now, I’m pretty justified when I feel good about looking young because, in effect, I am young.

I am now looking forward to making even better improvements on my daily health regimen in order to maintain my “RealAge”. I admit, I am very thankful for the “looking-young” genes which I inherited from my family, but now I really have to work on continuing to live my life to the fullest, as I live it to the “youngest” that I can.

Now its your turn. Are you my “big brother” or my “little sister”? Take the RealAge Test! It’s free!

LP29: Bago Nga (Something New)

Litratong Pinoy

Underground Hypnosis

I have always been fascinated with Hypnosis and Mind Control. However, I am not as obsessed with it as Taylor Starr, the guy who is now revealing the secret to “Underground Hynosis” - apparently an effective yet never before disclosed hypnosis technique perfected by a group of people belonging to an underground subculture that no one knew existed.

Part of what Starr claims is that this method, particularly the “Black Ops” technique (which is not a magic trick, mind you) is so powerful that once you master it, you can hypnotize anybody to do your bidding. For example, you can turn your worst enemies into your biggest fans, or even convince a millionaire to share his wealth with you, within minutes!

Well, when I first stumbled onto the site, these were the first things that came to mind: impossible, skeptical, freaky, interesting. But if this hypnosis thing were indeed true, then maybe I could use it to hypnotize Matt Damon or David Beckham to leave their wives and fall head over heels in love with me! Or perhaps even convince my husband to buy me a Hermes Birkin, haha! Suddenly, I am seeing the potential, aren’t you? :D

So anyway, if you are into innovative Hypnosis, you can try checking this out. Who knows, either you might find it simply educational or, if you must, quite lucrative!

Athletic

Ali —

– Oop!

Taken at the Mallory Square in Key West, this super athletic street performer does impossible somersaults, stunts, and leaps, all without the benefit of protective gear. One mistake, hello cement floor.

The Cranial Billboard Casting Call

I can say that motherhood may be the most life-changing journey I’ve ever experienced. First of all, everything changes once you become a parent - your habits, outlook, values, and even your wardrobe, hehe! I know I’ve changed, and I do know for a fact that its a change for the better.

For some people, though, it is a literal journey to someplace completely different, somewhere extremely incongruous, from the life that they are used to that changes their lives, too. This and more is what www.airnewzealand.com is hoping to offer via their life-changing journeys to the gorgeous and pristine paradise of New Zealand. In fact, as part of the airline’s marketing campaign, they will be holding a casting call in late October to select 30 adults to be shaved and tattooed to serve as cranial billboards in Los Angeles.

Do you have a person in mind?

Off the top of my head, I can probably see…

Him…

Him…

Or him!

Of course, Vin Diesel wins it hands down for me, and only because Mini Me is too short and Mr. Clean is too inanimate, haha!

So if you’re bald, willing to be inked, and in LA by the end of this month, you just might be chosen to help change someone’s life.

*Pictures of Mini Me, Mr. Clean, and Vin Diesel all swiped from wikipedia.org.

Tagged [Y is For Yehey]

Toni tagged me to write 10 things I love that start with the letter “Y.” Why kaya Y? :D

And, here we go!

1. YAHOO MESSENGER. I couldn’t imagine not having YM in my life. For years, YM has become my major connection to the outside world. I keep in touch with my family, meet new and keep old friends, and it simply comforts me knowing I’m not the only one online in the world, expectantly awaiting a chika window to pop.

2. YVES SAINT LAURENT. He’s the only one among my designer idols who qualifies to be on this list. :)

3. YOGA. I was avid before and I hope I can get back to it again.

4. YOLK. Egg yolks to be specific. I know it’s full of cholesterol etc etc. But I always hope that the Omega 3 in it will counter everything else. :)

5. YESTERDAY. Classic Beatles.

6. YAO MING. Cheered for the Rockets because of him, mainly.

7. YAKITORI. Yummy!

8. YOUTUBE. They gave new meaning to the concept of broadcasting yourself. :) Besides, its the best source of entertainment you can possibly find anywhere.

9. YOSHI TOUCH & GO. My (current) favorite Nintendo DS game. You can ask my daughter, she won’t, can’t, and doesn’t disturb me whenever I am playing, hehehe!

10. YOU’RE NOTHING BUT A SECOND RATE TRYING HARD COPY CAT. Lavinia vs. Dorina. My favorite Tagalog movie quote, ever.

And this entry was brought to you by the letter Y. Yes yes yo!

Whew! That was hard, but fun! Thanks, Toni! :D

If you’d like to snag this tag, please do so but you have to make a list of your 10 favorite things using the third letter in your name, ok? :) Have fun! :)

ShopWiki.Com

I just recently learned about ShopWiki and I am so excited about it. ShopWiki is a community-based shopping resource, which generates all of the possible websites where you can buy what you want online - and not just the sellers that have paid for placement. You can refine your search by price range, brand, and sites, and you can also create wikis for any product, find alternatives for what you want to buy, view and share product overviews and price checks, as well as tell you where to shop.

For instance, you have long been interested in purchasing a Nintendo Wii Console but do not know much about the product nor the accessories that go with it. By searching for Nintendo Wii, you will be directed to a wiki page that contains everything you need to know to make an informed purchase. What’s more, by clicking on the links within the wiki page to, for instance, the Wii Remote or the Wii Nunchuck, or even the Wii Sports game, you will then be easily directed to the wikis of each item. You can even click on the link for the Video Gaming Guide so that you can see for yourself how the Wii compares to other gaming consoles like PS3 or Xbox.

Truly, its a pretty revolutionary site that changes the way we do online shopping.

LP28: Luma Na (Something Old)

Litratong Pinoy

(Pictured above is the USS Yorktown, an old aircraft carrier used by the Americans during WWII. It now serves as a museum and is permanently docked at Patriot’s Point, South Carolina.)

(Come to think of it, this huge boat is luckier than I am - it has actually been to the Philippines quite a few times, while I haven’t been home in a while.)

Lumahok ito sa Battle of the Philippine Sea noong Hunyo 1944, sumuporta sa Invasion of Leyte noong Nobyembre 1944, at sumali sa mga air strikes sa Lingayen noong sumunod na Disyembre.

(This aircraft carrier participated in the Battle of the Philippine Sea in June 1944, the Invasion of Leyte in November 1944, and during the air strikes in Lingayen in December 1944.)

(Its a good thing that the Americans took home this baby and didn’t think to donate it to the Philippines. Otherwise, the Philippine Navy may still be using it until now. :D)

Discount AC Parts

Summer is the worst time for your car’s air conditioning to break down, especially if you are in the deep South as I am, where the term “fried” doesn’t just apply to dressed chicken. It’s a good thing though that you can always find great deals on auto air conditioning parts, specifically AC Compressors, at DiscountACParts.Com. Install the same high quality parts that dealers use at more affordable prices. So whether its a BMW or Mercedes AC compressor or even a Volkswagen ac compressor that you need, they have a great selection of new and re-manufactured products available and ready to ship for free.

Now that’s cool.
