LP31: Kadiliman

Litratong Pinoy

Napakaliwanag ng paligid, ngunit hindi mo na ito masasaksihan. Isang maling hakbang at, sa isang iglap, biglang magtatapos ang iyong paglalakbay. Napakaganda ng mundo ngunit masalimuot din.  Ang tanong… handa ka ba?

Ano ang huling bagay na iyong maiisip bago ka balutan ng sapot ng kadiliman?

~~~
Sa isang madilim na sinehan, isang napakagaling na huling pagganap DITO sa aking isa pang LP entry.
Fallen Soldier
I saw this bee on the pavement and immediately got my camera to capture him. It was when he never moved at all, all the time I was fumbling with my equipment, that I realized he was already lifeless. In fact, since it’s already Fall, I actually first wondered why he was still lazing about when he should already be reaping the fruits of his summer honey harvest together with the rest of his huge family.
I guess the little guy just never made it home.
10 Favorite Horror Movies
Boo!
Scared you? :D It’s almost that time of the year and I can’t help but love the theme for this week’s 10 on Tuesdays. How horrifyingly apt. :)
Anyway, I don’t normally watch horror movies (too much of a scaredy cat, I am) but, unfortunately, when you’re surrounded by horror movie freaks, there’s no escape, there’s nowhere to run, and they would know ultimately know what I did last summer.
So here’s my list.
1. The Ring. Here’s the thing, I bought tickets to see “The Lord of the Rings” but was issued tickets for “The Ring” instead. Imagine my horror when, instead of Orlando Bloom, I got Sadako.
2. Sixth Sense. Its not the gory type horror movie, but I had nightmares for weeks after watching this. I look at orbs differently now.
3. I Know What You Did Last Summer. Jennifer Love Hewitt was annoying. Que horror! But the movie was quintessentially scream-worthy.
4. Scream. Great segue, huh? Haha! Wes Craven did a great job of reinventing the slasher genre started by (equally scream-worthy) “Halloween” for our generation. Its a lot of fun, especially if you’re watching with a group of equally-scaredy cats.
5. Jaws. This can be classified as a horror movie, right? I saw this when I was a kid and it got me avoiding beaches altogether.
6. Amityville Horror. I think this was the movie that made me not want to watch Horror movies afterwards. It also did not help that my parents recently bought a property in a village called Amityville. Needless to say, I’d rather be homeless.
7. The Exorcist. Its a classic, what can I say. I actually got to watch the movie again and it didn’t seem as scary as it was back then. Ok, a little bit less scary. Its probably because I was able to see through the jurassic special effects. But anyway, still a classic.
8. Spoorloos or The Vanishing. I saw the Dutch version first and then (masochistically) watched The Vanishing (I liked the Dutch version better). Vanishing the way Saskia did, it would be my worst worst worst nightmare, ever.
9. The Blair Witch Project. To tell you the truth, I don’t remember how this movie ended, my eyes were closed the whole time, haha!
10. The Shining. I can bet you my Samsonite luggage that Jack Nicholson was made for this role. Not a lot of gore but a whole lot of nail-biting instead.
This list got me looking over my shoulder…
How about you? What are your 10 favorite horror movies? Play along with us at Ten on Tuesdays.
Shop, Confess, and Win
Come on, I know you have a secret online shopping purchase tucked away in the very back of your closet that you haven’t shown your hubby ever. Or hey, are you salivating over the new G1 phone already when you just purchased an iPhone the other month? Or maybe, you have that compulsion to purchase and collect everything with Nick Jonas on it.
Do tell! Creatively. :)
Because for that, you can maybe even win up to $1500 for your shopping confessions. You could either send a video of your confession (for a $1000 prize) or just write it down as a story (and win $500) if you astound the honorable board of judges with your extreme shopaholicity.
Register HERE at www.shopandconfess.com (don’t forget to mention mrsworkinggirl.com as your referring url, of course!)
And if you do win the $15,000 grand prize for the best shopping confession ever, don’t forget to add me to your holiday shopping list. :)
LP30: Liwanag (Light)
Litratong Pinoy
Lourdes Legaspi Lagman vda. de Liwanag
Nais ko pong ipakilala sa inyo ang aking lola. Siya kaagad ang unang pumasok sa aking isip para sa temang “Liwanag” ngayong Linggong ito sa LP dahil, bukod sa kanyang apelyido, kung meron man tayong tinatawag na ilaw ng tahanan, ang aking lola naman ay aming grand-ilaw. :)
Kakaiba ang taglay na liwanag ng aking Apo Loleng. Mula sa kanyang katawan ay umusbong ang anim na anak, na kung saan ang aking sariling ina ay ang siyang panganay. Nalagpasan nila ng aking lolo ang ikalawang digmaang pandaigdig, iginapang sa hirap ang kanilang mga anak, at hanggang ngayon ay patuloy pa rin nagbibigay ng kakulitan, kasiyahan, at paggabay sa aming pamilya lalo na sa mga panahon na nababalutan kami ng kadiliman ng problema.
Tunay ngang angkop na angkop sa kanya ang kanyang pangalan. Wala talagang hihigit pa sa kinang ng aming pinakamamahal na Liwanag.
Kahit madilim, maliwanag pa rin DITO sa aking isa pang LP entry.
10 Of The Best Meals I’ve Had
Just ten? :D I love to eat so I find the limitation quite limiting, hehe.
1. The Crabs at Obrycki’s will always get the number one spot on any food list of mine. I used to hate eating crabs but after the first hammer fell on the first claw, I was in love.
2. Actually, I don’t remember now what I ate at this out-of-the-way restaurant called Blue Bacon and Green Eggs. The food wasn’t particularly memorable, as was the ambiance, but my husband did surprise me with an engagement ring for dessert so, whatever I ate back then, was the best.
3. When I was but a rookie employee, my favorite boss let me tag along with her for a lunch meeting with a very high profile politician. Of course, I was speechless during the meeting, not because I was overwhelmed to be in the presence of such a venerable person but because I couldn’t stop eating the yummy yummy yummy sushi and sashimi feast that was laid out before me – good riddance to poise and professionalism. The restaurant is called Furusato.
4. A simple meal of Gray’s Papaya hotdog and a glass of lemonade, my first time in New York City, with one of my long-lost good friends. The best.
5. I remember this one particular night, I trudged on home, depressed, because my boss just gave me a severe tongue-lashing for something that I didn’t do nor deserved. I called my husband (of three weeks) to say that I was on my way home. He asked if I wanted to eat out, just so I could forget the ugly day that I had. I said, no, I just wanted to go home and not do anything. When I got home, there was a wonderful bowl of Sinigang na Baboy waiting for me, cooked by my husband. I never liked Sinigang at all, since I didn’t care for sour soups or stew. It was my husband’s comfort food, though, but he made the effort to cook for me thinking that it would comfort me too. And it did. From that moment on, I became a Sinigang girl. :)
6. Just the other day, a glass of orange juice and crackers, prepared for me by my 4-year old daughter because I was not feeling well. She said she would have prepared some noodle soup for me (like I always do when she’s sick), she’s just not allowed to tinker with the stove yet, hehe. God, I love that girl.
7. I have to say, my wedding day, too. I didn’t really eat much but I know it was definitely one of the best meals I have had, ever.
8. At Mario’s in Morato, its one of the few times I remember my Dad taking the family out for dinner when I was younger. I found the Ceasar Salad of my dreams here, and a memory of my workaholic Dad who made the effort to spend some time with his kids.
9. I think I am one of the few women in my family who do (did) not know how to cook. So when we moved to the US, I had nothing but boiled water to say for my culinary talents. Thanks to my husband, I cooked our family’s meal for the very first time, a Tinola (which was a little bit bland, the veggies were a little soggy, and the chicken was a bit undercooked). That meal started my love-hate affair with the kitchen. :)
10. A home-cooked meal with my family (sans the food throwing, haha) is always a best meal.
LP29: Bago Nga (Something New)
Litratong Pinoy
Para sa isang sanggol, ang lahat ay bago – walang problema, walang paghihirap, walang sama ng loob, walang ikinakatakot – isang mundong bukas at hitik sa pangako ng magandang simulain.
Ito ay si Alyanna, bunsong anak ng aming matatalik na kaibigan at siyang aming pinakabagong inaanak. Sana, sa kanyang paglaki, hindi mawala ang kanyang kapanatagan ng loob at pati na rin ang sense of wonder sa lahat ng sorpresang ilalahad sa kanya ng buhay.
Bagong laruan ng aking mister, ang aking regalo sa kanyang kalilipas lamang na kaarawan, DITO sa aking isa pang LP entry.
Athletic
– Oop!
Taken at the Mallory Square in Key West, this super athletic street performer does impossible somersaults, stunts, and leaps, all without the benefit of protective gear. One mistake, hello cement floor.
Tagged [Y is For Yehey]
Toni tagged me to write 10 things I love that start with the letter “Y.” Why kaya Y? :D
And, here we go!
1. YAHOO MESSENGER. I couldn’t imagine not having YM in my life. For years, YM has become my major connection to the outside world. I keep in touch with my family, meet new and keep old friends, and it simply comforts me knowing I’m not the only one online in the world, expectantly awaiting a chika window to pop.
2. YVES SAINT LAURENT. He’s the only one among my designer idols who qualifies to be on this list. :)
3. YOGA. I was avid before and I hope I can get back to it again.
4. YOLK. Egg yolks to be specific. I know it’s full of cholesterol etc etc. But I always hope that the Omega 3 in it will counter everything else. :)
5. YESTERDAY. Classic Beatles.
6. YAO MING. Cheered for the Rockets because of him, mainly.
7. YAKITORI. Yummy!
8. YOUTUBE. They gave new meaning to the concept of broadcasting yourself. :) Besides, its the best source of entertainment you can possibly find anywhere.
9. YOSHI TOUCH & GO. My (current) favorite Nintendo DS game. You can ask my daughter, she won’t, can’t, and doesn’t disturb me whenever I am playing, hehehe!
10. YOU’RE NOTHING BUT A SECOND RATE TRYING HARD COPY CAT. Lavinia vs. Dorina. My favorite Tagalog movie quote, ever.
And this entry was brought to you by the letter Y. Yes yes yo!
Whew! That was hard, but fun! Thanks, Toni! :D
If you’d like to snag this tag, please do so but you have to make a list of your 10 favorite things using the third letter in your name, ok? :) Have fun! :)
