10 Things That Scare/Freak You Out

Not a lot scares or freaks me out. My being too calm actually freaks my husband out, haha! But, of course, there are some things that spook me, and here are my ten:

1. I know a lot of moms will relate to this but: the phone number of my daughter’s school flashing on my caller ID literally halts my respiration.

2. My hard drive crashing. Along with it my documents and pictures.

3. Losing my handbag, with my entire life in the hands of the unknown. And the task of reporting, cancelling, re-applying, re-stocking the contents of my purse is just pretty daunting.

4. Likewise, losing my luggage in the airport. I can’t get the image of my trusty Samsonite landing somewhere in Yemen or Qatar or Zimbabwe.

5. Fire. Ok fine, I’d rather lose things or be robbed than lose everything in a fire.

6. Creepy crawlies and wild beasts. Wild humans included.

7. Drunk and sleepy drivers. Refer to #6.

8. Joan Rivers.

9. The state of the economy and hubby’s job security.

10. Losing loved ones or them getting critically ill.

What ten things scare or freak you out?

WS23: A Treasure Trove

Last weekend probably is one of my favorite weekends ever because I shopped galore! For books, that is. :)

Hubby kept Ninna busy while I browsed through the 49th Annual Bookfair of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) at the Perimeter Mall.

That’s how much (or how little) the books cost. One can’t help but hoard them all in. Right?

The books are actually used but are in really great condition.

Even my daughter was so excited about our treasure trove. My hubby even took home a few programming and photography books for himself.

They even had a whole section of first edition and autographed books.

Signed, sealed, and delivered. The orange “autographed copy” stickers made these books all the more priceless.

My favorite find of the day?

My signed copy of the Griffin and Sabine book.

I love your book, Nick!

Despite my resolve not to buy any more books, all in all, we took home two paper bags full of books! Aside from handbags and food, books are also my biggest splurges. At least, I didn’t spend more than $20 bucks for all of my loot so I don’t feel guilty about my purchases at all. (Unlike with food where I sometimes want to down some diet pills right after, haha!)

Comfy chair and reading lamp, here I come!

Thanks for viewing our bookish weekend at AAUW’s Book Fair, Atlanta, GA.

iLasik Information

It’s really amazing how far technology has taken us. From the discovery of fire to the advent of the internet, I really can’t imagine myself living without these! However, one of the more important legacies of technology to society is its ability to be used not only for scientific or mechanical advancements but more so for the improvement of our health and wellness.

One simple procedure that brings about huge rewards is LASIK technology. Imagine how beneficial it is to have corrected vision in dealing with everyday tasks! No thick glasses to lose or break, the ability to see your kids clearly as they live and grow, and, as in the case with out military personnel, being able to defend our country safely and properly.

In fact, the US Department of Defense has utilized iLasik (or Modern Lasik) as a vision correction treatment for the men and women of the military, particularly those who are facing extreme, physically demanding conditions. “The DOD and NASA have validated the fact that today’s LASIK exceeds all established standards of safety and effectiveness,” said Steven Schallhorn, M.D., a retired U.S. Navy captain and leader of clinical research and studies done for the DOD regarding the use of LASIK.

So how does iLasik work?

First, two lasers map the unique characteristics of the individual’s eyes. Then, an ultrafast, computer-guided laser creates a corneal flap, which replaces the handheld microkeratome blade used in older forms of LASIK, thus making the procedure exceptionally safe. After the flap is created, the wave-front mapping data guides a second laser for vision correction. Ultimately a clinically proven custom-fit is then created for the patient, which therefore provides excellent safety and visual results.

Bingo Anyone?

Ask my mom and she’ll tell you that I probably learned how to count from 1-75 by playing Bingo. :) Bingo was, and probably still is, my family’s favorite pastime. Everyone in my brood from age four to ninety-four (plus plus) could play it, we could choose our own number markers (stones? pennies? m&ms? peanuts?), and we would have a blast calling out silly stuff or riddles about the numbers (e.g. under I, the day before the day after Christmas! under N, Kareem Adbul Jabbar!).

Playing Bingo will always have a special place in my memory, which is why I can’t wait until I can create the same happy memories with my own daughter. And, with Screenlife’s Disney Bingo DVD game, I can do just that!

Take a peek at this video and see how much fun and cute the game is!

Classic family games need not stay “classic”. A little updating doesn’t hurt at all, especially when we see how much our little ones appreciate seeing their familiar favorite characters in a game which, in turn is warmly familiar to us.

Purchase the game now via Amazon.com or Drugstore.com and let Mickey Mouse, the Princesses, the Hundred Acre Woods gang, and the rest of the Disney friends help you start making memories of your own.

LP26: Puti At Itim

Litratong Pinoy

XFlowsion

Lose ten pounds in ten weeks!

If that doesn’t catch your attention (like it did mine), I don’t know what will. :) That’s the promise of XFLOWSION, a revolutionary workout video that combines martial arts, power yoga, and dance for that super Triple Training effect.

I myself have been using dance videos alone for these past couple of weeks and have already lost about a pound or two. However, imagine if one could combine the effectiveness (and fun!) of dancing with the discipline of martial arts and the flexibility that comes from doing yoga - it’s the ultimate workout. Getting the same results in 1/3 of the time sounds like a great idea to me!

The workout is designed by renowned fitness expert to the celebrities, Eric Paskel, was featured in leading magazines like InTouch and Shape, and is used by the winners of last season’s American Gladiators, Monica and  Evan, to get into ultimate combat shape!

This may very well be one of the best investments we can make for our health. It looks easy, fun, and effective - all the things we hope our workout videos would be. Get one for yourself now and start sweating, stretching, and sculpting! And of course, don’t forget to thank me in ten days. :)

LP25: Ginto

Litratong Pinoy

Ika nga, going for gold DITO sa aking isa pang LP entry.

Anti-Cellulites

Lord knows how much I need cellulite therapy right now. After gaining all that pregnancy weight (that I have not been able to shed off despite my best intentions) I’ve mainly become pretty dimple-y, which is not a good thing when the dimples aren’t smile-related, if you know what I mean. :)

Anyway, here in my city of Atlanta, there’s M Medical Spa, a results-oriented medical facility that utilizes a breakthrough technology called Accent cellulite therapy, which apparently uses MSQ technology - a combination of radio-frequency and electrical energies that helps smooth out those thigh and butt dimples in the way losing weight and acoustic wave therapy can’t.

Short of a miracle, anything that can smooth and tighten, it’s a go for me.

Snagged [Fill It In]

Hmmm, it seems no one has been tagging me anymore. Why??

Ok fine, I know that it’s probably because I’ve been pretty remiss in accomplishing tags on time that my taggers have perhaps given up on me, hehe. Truth is, I still do have a few tags in my draft that I have yet to publish. While waiting for those tags to see the light of day, I snagged this tag from Nice because I found it pretty simple to do, as well as a cute one.

I love fill-in the blanks memes!

So, here goes:

My roommate and I once: had a very pink room - my roommate being my sister.

Never in my life have I: done illegal drugs. I’m a certified goody-two-shoes that way.

High school was: not exactly Sweet Valley High-ish.

When I’m nervous: I laugh or giggle, chew on my lips, or get a migraine.

My hair: needs a lot of TLC right now.

When I was 5: my brother was 4 and my sister was 1, hehe. (Sorry, I can’t remember anything about it!)

When I turn my head to the left: there’s nothing to see except a blank wall with a brown chair rail.

I should be: doing house chores but I’m not - am Plurking (nyehehe!).

By this time next year: I hope we’re still here in Georgia.

My favorite aunt is: my mom’s youngest sister. (Hi Tam!)

I have a hard time understanding: the US health insurance system.

You know I like you if: I turn the charm on for you. :)

My ideal breakfast is: Jollibee’s longganisa meal. Gosh, I wish.

If you visit my home town: there’s really nothing much to see. I wish my hometown was somewhere more exciting like Boracay or Batanes, hehe.

If you spend the night at my house: be prepared to sleep on an air mattress, hehe!

The animal I would like to see flying besides birds: would be anything, EXCEPT cockroaches. Eww!

I shouldn’t have been: still eating for two after I gave birth, haha!

Last night I: slept. Really really slept. Too tired!

A better name for me would be: anything other than my real name, mwehehe!

I’ve been told I look like: Ara Mina, Tina Arena, and/or my youngest sister.

If I could have any car, it would be: a Volvo XC90. Or a Porshe Cayenne. I’m not really picky, whichever my hubby hands over would be absolutely fine with me. :)

That was fun!

If you want to snag, feel free! :)
