Great American Seafood Cookoff

When I think of fresh, local, seafood, the first thing that comes to my mind is Maryland Blue Crabs.

The crabs pictured above were taken at Obrycki’s in Baltimore. Obrycki’s serves the best steamed crabs I’ve ever had the pleasure in my life to eat. I think it has a lot to do with the fact that, aside from the wonderful original spices that they use, their crabs are super duper fresh. In fact, if you should ask me how I could possibly improve their recipe, I would absolutely have no idea. Theirs is the recipe that I would pit any crab recipe against. Including my mom’s if she had one, hehe.

Have you guys tried their crabs? Do you think you would you be able to suggest any way to improve the recipe? My advice: try the crabs first before you start saying anything. :)

Speaking of seafood, I myself am quite excited about the Great American Seafood Cook off happening on August 2-3 in New Orleans. If I were the one who invented the recipe for Obrycki’s crabs, I would have joined the competition in a heartbeat. However, since my only claim to fame extends to baking a passable alaskan salmon in the oven, I’m rather keeping my shrimps peeled in anticipation for this special event. The US has a lot of fresh local seafood that deserves to be highlighted as well as sustained, this cook-off will not only showcase the positiveness of domestic seafood sustainability but would be doing do so in a yummy All-American way.
