LP08: Tubig

Litratong Pinoy

Bata pa lang siya ay napakahilig nang maligo ng anak ko. Wala siyang takot sa tubig. Mabuti na lang, dahil ayaw ko naman siyang lumaking mabaho at dehin goli habang buhay.

(My daughter has always been fond of water, which is a good thing.)

Kaya naman isa sa pinaka-paborito niyang palaruan ay ang waterpark. Ang mga sumusunod na kuha ay mga action shots ng aking anak habang tuwang-tuwang naglalaro sa tubigan.

(She loves waterparks and, below, you can see how much.)

Ang saya ano?

(How fun!)

Isa pang Tubig DITO. (Please click this link for my other Water entry).

Siya nga pala ulit, gumagawa po ako ng Blogroll para sa LP. Kung nais niyong ilagay ko kayo sa blogroll, puntahan ang pahinang ITO para malaman kung paano. Thanks!

Sofa Set Dreams

I’m browsing through home furniture sites again. What can I say, I am addicted to window shopping for great pieces for the home that I will own one day. I am still dreaming of the day when I can decorate my own home with all those ideas I have amassed from watching too much home and garden shows! As you know, I’m not much of a decorator so I’m searching for pieces that could go together with my most minimal intervention, haha! Perchance to dream…

Something For Him

As early as now, I am already thinking of what I should give to my hubby for Father’s Day. Since he is so into golf, I was thinking of choosing a new golf bag. The one that he has right now is a huge, heavy monstrosity so I want to replace that with a lighter, more back-friendly design. I was browsing through golf bags today and am already seeing a few that I like. Do you think its a great idea?

MSQ04: Our Family’s Budget

MommaStuff Question #4:Can you share any budget or money saving tips that you find effective?

Here’s My Answer:

Budget? Ano yun?

Kidding. :D

The one big tip that I could probably give everyone about budgeting is: let the more responsible spouse handle your expenses! Seriously.

I actually wrote about my and hubby’s financial set-up on a previous WifeSpeaks discussion about Money Matters. Should you revisit this entry, you’ll get a better understanding of where I’m coming from.

Aside from that another tip that I can share is: do not spend more than you can afford!

Most people overestimate the allowable amount they think their family can spend in, say, a month. You could easily track your family’s spending by monitoring your expenses. Some people use an excel file, some depend on their credit card statements or bills, some people keep receipts, some people just pay in cash. Whatever works for you, but just monitor that spending!

Another one is: save save save!

Set aside a certain amount for your savings and consider that as part of your “fixed expenses” when drawing up your budget, much like your groceries, utilities, etc. Savings shouldn’t be “what’s left of the budget” because if that’s your prinsipyo, most of the time nothing gets left from the budget so most of the time you save nothing.

If you’re having trouble sticking to a savings goal, get a high-yield time deposit account from any bank. Most banks have savings products that will allow you to automatically transfer money from another account to that savings account, and then would only allow you one or two withdrawals every month, with a penalty if you do withdraw more than what’s allowed. This way, your money gets transfered and saved even if you “forget” to do so on your own, but at the same time be able to give you that peace of mind that you will be able to make special withdrawals for emergency purposes from a funded source. And emergency doesn’t mean that the newest LV line just arrived at your local LV boutique, ok?

Lastly, be flexible.

As long as you have your financial goals within sight, don’t stress out about money too much. Be reasonable, be practical, and give yourself a pat on the back by enjoying the fruits of your earnings once in a while. Seeing your money working for you will give you more motivation to save. Pramis. :)

As for my family, we do have a budget and some parts of it are flexible. We first set aside a certain amount to pay off our kautangan and utilities – that’s non-negotiable. After all, these amounts are pretty much pre-determined and fixed so we already know how much we need to shell out each and every time. We also have investments in real estate, the money market, and for retirement, as well as keep some liquid savings for the rainy days. We’re pretty thankful that my hubby’s company pays for our rent and car rental expenses so that’s pretty much out of our hair right now.

Then, the flexible part: we do grocery shopping twice a month and we are careful not to spend more than a particular amount each time, although sometimes we just can’t help ourselves with that nice pair of jeans at Costco, haha! Because our family loves to travel, there are some weeks when our gas, dining out, or shopping expenses is higher than other weeks, we just balance it out from other weeks when we’re just home-bound and chilling. What’s left of it is used to advance pay our other utangs (dami utang dito sa Amerika!), for date nights, and for toys r’ us (or bestbuy or outlet) expeditions, haha!

Of course, I’m pretty happy with the set-up since I’m not the one primarily handling the accounts. If you do ask my hubby about this, give him an Advil first. :D

10 Movies I’m Excited To See

I am looking forward to seeing these movies:

1. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
:: I am an Indy fan as I’m sure a lot of you are, too!

2. The Dark Knight
:: To see Heath one last time.

3. The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
:: I love this series by CS Lewis and I loved how they did the first movie, almost staying true to the story. I hope they do the same with Prince Caspian.

4. Forbidden Kingdom
:: Jackie Chan and Jet Li, who could ask for a better team-up?

5. You Don’t Mess With The Zohan
:: Adam Sandler always cracks me up. Always.

6. Mamma Mia
:: I was lucky enough to see the theater production a while back and I enjoyed it immensely. With Meryll Streep at the helm of this movie, with Pierce Brosnan no less, I am expecting great things.

7. The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor
:: I’m a fan of the first two installments. The first one was surprisingly great and the second one exceeded! I hope the third one will be just as exciting and nail-biting.

8. High School Musical 3: Senior Year
:: It’s the teeny-bopper in me, I have to admit. Anyway, it’s a shame not to see the third one after my daughter and I enjoyed the first two, right?

9. The Happening
:: Have I told you yet that I am an M. Night Shyamalan fan? Yes, I am, and a big one. I seldom watch Thrillers because some of them can be either really gory or really stupid. Shyamalan’s movies are always so well-written and so unexpected.

10. Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince
:: Pottermaniacs, awaken from your slumber! I seriously can’t wait until November.

How about you? What movies are you excited to see?

Tagged [My Day]

This one is from Tin. Sis, ako rin napaka-routinary ng araw ko, haha!

What time do you usually wake up?
Around 7-730am if hubby needs to bring packed lunch. If not, until 930 or until Ninna wakes up, hehe.

What’s the first thing you do?
Prepare Ninna’s breakfast.

Breakfast?
Cereals, or pancakes, or PB sandwhich. Depends mainly on my senyorita’s mood.

Do you go to work/school?
Full-time sahmmy ako so it’s also sort of like going to work and going to school (because I re-learn new things with Ninna everyday) .

Do you like it?
Yezz!

If you stay at home, what do you do all day?
The usual shammy stuff. Anything as long as hindi naka-tunganga, I hate being idle.

Around 12, and we usually eat what’s left over from dinner the night before. Or the other night before, hehe. :D

What time do you get home from work/school?
My career is a 24/7 thing so walang uwian, hehe.

What do you do?
I do the dance of joy…most of the time.

Dinner: When and what?
Dinnertime depends on what time hubby comes home from work, usually around 630-7:30. Dinner is definitely rice and ulam.

What do you do to unwind?
Sleep, haha! I blog. :)

What’s your favorite part of the day?
Bed time, hehe.

Who’s your favorite person to interact with?
Hubby and Ninna. Meron pa bang iba? Haha!

Around 11pm.

Who’s bedtime with?
Matt Damon… sana! Haha! Anyway, I sleep with two people whom I think are the best bedmates in the world: hubby and Ninna. :)

I am tagging everyone who’s had the same bedmate/s for more than a year, hehe. :D

I’ll Be Seeing You

What’s Your Story: Write about the last time you said goodbye

Lunchbox prepared and all, I said goodbye to my husband this morning. He’s not going away, as in away. He’s just leaving for the office, like he does five days a week, every week. After the door closes behind him and I hear his car drive off, the “missing” starts.

Bye, he says. Not Goodbye, which sounds so final. See you later, love.

And I am just here.

Waiting.

WS 12: Mini Masters

For the first time in the history of the Masters, a novice challenges an expert to a one-on-one on the green.

“This is going to be easy. But well, you gotta do what you gotta do.”

The challenger sweats out the difficult putt despite the cool Friday evening.

No upsets here. Our expert wins!

“Better luck next time, Papa.”
