A Sugary Thought
I remember that our family used to have a sugarcane field. Every summer my cousins and I would ask our uncles to chop up some ripe sugarcanes for us and we would munch on them raw. It really made for some great memories and strong jaws. :)
I never really cared much about the logistics behind making sugar, not until I came across this website about sugar from Brazil. Apparently, sugar is really big in Brazil and, because sugar is very important to them, Brazilian Sugar Prices don’t really have any effect on their consumption. However, I guess we can expect the prices of sugar to increase everywhere, given the fact that technology has found a way to use sugarcanes for alternative purposes, such as for ethanol production.
Who would have thought that those canes we used to snack on could become such a valuable source of energy one day? Amazing.
