Peculiar Personas

There’s a new show premiering on the 1st of June called In Plain Sight. It stars Mary Shannon as Mary McCormack, a U.S. Marshal attached to the highly secretive Federal Witness Protection Program known as WITSEC, assigned to Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Her job is to protect Federal Witnesses, whether they are career criminals or innocent bystanders, as well as help give them new identities to literally hide them in plain sight. On top of this, Mary must also keep the true nature of her work secret from her family and friends in order not to endanger them, her witnesses or herself.

I honestly can relate with Mary. In order to do her job, she has to wear many hats at any given time: mother, therapist, best friend, maid of honor, priest, rabbi, marriage counselor, employment agent, bodyguard, and occasionally, homicide detective. As a mom, myself, I too get to wear many hats: mother, therapist, best friend, maid of honor, teacher, cook, bodyguard, and occasionally a circus clown. But, like Mary, for all the quirks of our family and friends, the last thing we want is for anyone to have to worry about anything - that’s our job, both on duty and off.

Anyway,  USA Network’s new original series In Plain Sight has an interesting premise and I’m inviting all of you to catch it.

Getting Ready For Black Friday

I seriously think that you will never find two people in this world who are as fanatical about thanksgiving deals as my husband and I. We really love shopping the day after Thanksgiving and, for the last few years, we have had our technique down pat. He would usually leave way before dawn in order to get first dibs on the electronics sales, and then it is my turn to do my apparel shopping as soon as he comes back home at around 8 or 9AM. We would meet up a little bit later on at the shopping center or some other superstore to do, guess what, even more shopping.

What really gets us going is browsing through the sale circulars each retailer gives away the day before Black Friday. Beforehand, hubby and I already know which thanksgiving deals to line up for and which stores we should pitch our tents in front of.

But now, through this site called BlackFriday.net, we can already see way beforehand what stores will be putting what things on sale. The site gives you the advantage offering direct links to each product so you can purchase the items online on Black Friday without having to stand in line at the store! They even offer email alerts that let you know when new black friday ads have been posted.

I am so loving that idea! Imagine not having to line up at Wal-Mart, Circuit City, Target, and BestBuy at three in the morning! That means more time to line up at Macy’s, Old Navy, and Toys R Us, hehe.

LP09: Hangin

Litratong Pinoy

Tagged [The Fave Toy]

This tag is from Tin. Thanks gurl! :D

Here are the rules:

Post a photo of your baby with her first ever favorite/comfort toy. Write some details of your fondest memory of your baby and her toy (like what I did below). This will make a good memento when your baby grows up!

Lastly, before you pass this on to six (or more) mommies, don’t forget to add the link to your website/s at the end of the page. I’m sure many moms would love to see your sites, too! :)

When Ninna was a baby, she surprisingly didn’t need a toy (or blanket or pillow) to comfort her. Apparently she was, as a baby, quite independent even when it came to comforting herself. I would like to think that, she was just a happy and secure baby overall.

Anyway, as she grew older, she did find a friend in Pooh. This particular pooh bear toy crawled whenever you touched its booty. Ninna loved crawling after it a lot. As in a lot, hehe.

Five-month old Ninna with Poohbear.

From then on, we took poohbear everywhere we went. And even when we had Ninna’s picture taken when she turned one year old, Pooh was still in the picture.

However, Pooh has since retired. When you ask Ninna now what her favorite toy is, she’ll tell you it’s Teddy - a pink teddy bear that she won about two years ago on one of those arcade machines with claws that’ll grab a toy and drop it in the chute, if you are ever so lucky to win one. Until now, Teddy is still her bff. She even took a picture of Teddy with my cellphone so that whenever we’re out, she could always look at Teddy’s picture daw and not be sad (dramatic no?).

Here’s Teddy. I think we should seriously change her name to Gutay-Gutay. Of course, Ninna wouldn’t have that, I’m sure! :D

So anyway, that’s the story of my Ninna’s favorite toys.

I’d like to ask the following mommies: Maver, Mel, Vannie, Gem, Dyes, and Chloe. What’s your kid’s fave toy?

Saving For A Rainy Day

Hubby and I are staunch believers of sound investing. We prefer that our savings come in the form of long-term investments because, aside from the higher return in terms of yield, it also discourages us from touching these investments before we really need them. However, we also believe that there should be some liquidity in our savings such that it can be readily available in case of emergencies. For us, savings accounts that are accessible, secure, and reliable are the way to go - only if hubby holds on to the ATM, that is, hehe.

Light My Fire

I have to admit, I am not a major lingerie wearer. Aside from the fact that they’re impractical for cold nights, or when you need to evacuate a burning building, these garments, especially the well-made ones, do not come cheap. However, wearing sexy nightwear once in a while doesn’t hurt. In fact, it greatly helps keep the spice in a marriage. Anyway, there are cheap lingerie lines out there that does the trick, too, if you know what I am saying. Simply put, it really doesn’t take a lot to kindle the romance in any relationship. Just make sure to put out the candles properly, that is.
