Old Victorian
We didn’t live long enough in Texas for my family and I to head over to Orange, Texas. Had we had the opportunity, one of our first stops would definitely be to visit the W.H. Stark House.
I, for one, am a fan of old victorian houses. They are so full of history and beautiful architecture, and I am happy that steps are being taken to celebrate these beautiful structures through their restoration.
The W.H. Stark House is a victorian landmark which has been restored to its original beauty. It has been listed in the National Register of Historic Places and designated as a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark by the Texas Historical Commission.
With its 14,000 square feet and 15 rooms, the Stark House holds a significant display of original family furnishings, china, silver, rugs, porcelains, glass, artwork, woodwork, and lighting, and each level of the house offers an extraordinary glimpse at the lifestyle of the prominent timber family who occupied it from 1894-1936. The original owners and occupants of the W.H. Stark House, William Henry Stark and Miriam Melissa Lutcher Stark, were both avid collectors. Together, they amassed many 18th and 19th century decorative works as well as artistic pieces from their travels around the globe.
Given the opportunity, I would definitely go and visit. Orange, Texas is only a two-hour drive from both Houston, TX and Baton Rouge, LA.
The W.H. Stark House is open from Tuesday to Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and are closed on New Year’s Day, Fourth of July, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day. Admission is $5.00 per adult (18-64 years), $2.00 per senior (65 years and older), and per youth (ages 10 to 17 years).
Get this, any blogger who visits the house, and capture three (3) pictures of themselves at the house, will be rewarded with an additional $100.00. Although no pictures are allowed in the house, your pictures may be taken outside to confirm your visit.
And that, my friends, is a very wonderful victorian incentive for all of us to go and visit the house right now.
