Assignment #2 : Ten Before The Four-Oh
Because I asked for it…
Judy instructed me to write down 10 things I’d like to do/pursue/have before the kwarenta-kariton rolls in. Gosh, I can’t even imagine myself being that old. Forty is my mom (well, actually she’s turning sixty but I still think of her as forty). Forty is Andy Stitzer (nyehehe). Forty is Madonna. Madonna?? Hmm…
O sige na nga, pwede na rin. :D
Here’s my list (and it’s not in any particular order of priority). Good luck to me!
Number One: To have (one or two) more kids.
Yeap, I’d like to take advantage of my ovaries and uterus while they are still in working order.
Number Two: To be a homeowner.
I want roots. I want a house in this planet that I can decorate, make a mess of, and truly call home. I don’t plan on living this current nomadic life of ours forever. We have no choice right now but, someday, we will have a choice… and a family room… and a yard… and a white picket fence… and an accent wall that is not white…
Number Three: To lose 30 pounds.
I’d like to fit into a size 4 (at least) and finally have cheekbones. I want to look and feel healthy and fabulous at forty. I want to seriously take up Yoga, or try my hand again at any sport (maybe go back to Fencing or something), or just purchase that elliptical trainer I’ve been continually yearning for (unfortunately, this thing’ll depend on my Number Two because I don’t want to be lugging around that huge mechanical thing everytime we move).
Number Four: To go back to school.
My drama: “hindi ako nakatapos ng pag-aaral kasi maaga akong nag-asawa”. Harhar. Ok, so that may be stretching it a bit. Fact is, I got married at 27 and never got to finish my Masters. I have yet to write (and defend) a thesis in order to march towards my diploma (with Jimmy Choos hopefully peeping out from under my toga). But I hope to finish it someday. Yeah, hopefully before I’m forty. Or fifty. Or sixty.
Number Five: To learn another language.
They say the faculty for learning a language gets weaker as we grow older. I vow to put that weakening faculty on the elliptical trainer, if you know what I mean. Che cosa pensate? I’m sure it will be helpful with Number Six.
Number Six: To go to Egypt.
And Greece. And Italy. And the Great Wall of China. And the Eiffel Tower. And Angkor Wat. And Scotland. And the Maldives. And Australia. And Machu Picchu. And the Taj Mahal. And the Vatican. And Outer Space. Get free disney world tickets whenever I want to. And that would even be greater if I could…
Number Seven: Learn to fly an Airplane.
Secretly, I have always wanted to become a pilot. Astig di ba?
Number Eight: Meet Ate Shawie and Ninang Vi in person.
Enough said.
Number Nine: To have a written work of mine published in a major literary journal.
The New Yorker, perhaps? Nyah, hahaha. Seriously, I’m not trying to be JK Rowling-ish (you know, stay-at-home mom becomes milyonarya. on second thought…), I just want to be published in a major way. Aside from the sense of immortality that it will bring me, I could also use the huge amount of money I’m going to be paid so I can…
Number Ten: Own an Hermes Birkin
I know this won’t happen on my housewife’s allowance. So I am counting on The New Yorker (and possibly the royalties I’ll get when they turn my piece into a screenplay) to pay for my lovely 35cm crocodile.

hmmm, well-thought of and a well-written piece… another one of those good samples that may qualify for publication in a major literary journal! (hehe)
i think all you’ve written are attainable, BUT i’ll have to say goodluck and all the best for numbers 7 and 10! i have to agree though that with the fulfillment of #9, #10 wouldn’t be oh-so far behind… so that leaves you with #7 to really work on if you’re dead serious about it. ;-)
