Snagged [The Fridge Door Project]

As soon as Toni posted her ref-door challenge last week, I gamely took snapshots of our fridge. Kaka-excite, kasi our fridge door is the only thing in our cavern of a house that isn’t bare. Anyhoo, heto, better late than never, may I present to you: our fridge door.

Hubby and I started collecting fridge magnets since the day we started travelling together. The tales behind these travels, through the eyes of my daughter, can be found Here.

I would have wanted to take home some special (i.e. bigger) “artifacts” from our travels, pero hubby wouldn’t hear any of it. Kalat lang daw sa bahay (nyah!). So, me being the collector freak that I am, I compromised with fridge magnets na lang. Kaysa wala, di ba? So basically, everything that you would see on our fridge are souvenirs from our pasyals here in the US. Whenever we travel now, hubby automatically homes-in on any souvenir shop just to get a magnet. O di ba, well-trained na, hehe? Plus, he has his own “magnet-project” pa! See pic below.

The bottom part of our fridge holds the magnets of (supposedly) all the states we’ve set foot on. This is hubby’s “collection”. Although right now, hindi na updated ito because we couldn’t find any stores nearby that sell these type of magnets (or we just haven’t had the time to look around). So we’re still about 4 states short of being accurate.

One good thing to come out of this project, too, is, since the states are placed at Ninna’s eye-level, it doubles as a geography lesson for her (and for me, too!). Well, yes, kulang pa. I know, I know. There’s a huge gap between IL and NV (and believe me, they’re not as near as they look in real life), and we still need to do a lot more exploring over at the West Coast as well as the smaller states of the Northeast. So then, I think we really need to do more travelling for the sake of the completion of my Ninna’s geography lesson, di ba? *cough cough*

Anyway, I’m happy to know that our fridge door serves a greater purpose than just being a simple, huge, and otherwise boring appliance in the kitchen. It’s our testament to our family’s makating nunal sa paa, as well as our humble efforts to document our footsteps and explorations. Thanks to our ref, we are reminded that there’s a big world out there yet to discover and conquer, including and beyond what’s for dinner tonight, of course.

Tagged [Three Pigs, Ten Words]

Once upon a time, two little piggies, Ambrosia and Pingping, decided that a sleepover at their sister Mila’s brick house would be safer. Their straw and wooden cottages have recently been blown away by their arch enemy, Mr. B.B.Wolf. The pigs have repeatedly refused to return B.B.’s special whip, a gift from R.R.Hood’s grandmother. In a daring show of protest against the use of animal-hide as personal weapons, the pigs broke into B.B.Wolf’s home, placed their sleeping nemesis in handcuffs and took off with the offensive leather strap.

Not surprisingly, B.B.Wolf tracked them down. Knowing that his huffing and puffing would have no effect on the brick house, he decided to sing for his gadget, instead.

Now, B.B. was known as the most romantic crooner in all the land. When the pigs heard his sexy voice imploring: “Little pigs, little pigs, please let me in? Allow me to explain that it’s synthetic skin?”, the threesome melted. With the voice of their hairy adversary resounding in their hearts like a fired shotgun, the pigs gave in to the sweet squeeze of B.B.’s song.

And, as the explosion of applause from their fellow villagers faded, they all lived happily ever after.

Duke tagged me with this. My story turned out a word shy of 200. This was so fun to do. Thanks, sis!

Come on, take the challenge and make your own short story. Here’s what you need to do:

Write a short story of not more than 200 words, based on the following words which can only be used once!

1. sleepover 2. whip 3. handcuffs 4. leather 5. sexy
6. threesome 7. hairy 8. shotgun 9. squeeze 10. explosion

I know my daughter will get to read my blog entries someday, this one included. I tried to be as wholesome and as “general patronage” as I could. With these words to work with, it wasn’t easy. (Between you and me, we all know a better story where these would fit really nicely, but that would have been too easy, hehe.). Don’t forget to link back so I’ll know what you came up with, ok?

Game!
